James “Jim” Harold Duncan, 85, of Browns, Illinois passed away peacefully on Thursday, February 8, 2024 in his home surrounded by his family. He was born on December 2, 1938 in Browns, Illinois to Melvin and Elizabeth Duncan.

He was a member of Browns United Methodist Church in Browns, Illinois.

Jim was an excellent basketball and baseball player in his teen years and a lifetime carpenter who spent over 70 years in his trade. His love for the outdoors was apparent in his hobbies of carpentry, playing golf, horseback riding, and hunting.

Jim’s presence felt comforting, strong, and safe; he will be dearly missed by all who knew him. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather. He was a member of the Albion Moose Lodge as well as Carpenters Local prior to his self-employment with Duncan Construction.

He is proceeded in death by his parents, and one brother, Michael Duncan.

He is survived by his wife, Joan Duncan; one sister, Lynn Garrison, three children, Mark (Teresa) Duncan, Todd Duncan, and Kelly (Rick) Marshall; four grandchildren, Joshua, Stephanie (Mike), Natalie (Ogden), Kate; five step grandchildren, Wade, Drew, Cale, Mason, and Avery; three great grandchildren, Cade, Grant, and Charlotte. Jim was also survived by several nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held at 10:00 AM on Saturday, February 17, 2024 at Browns United Methodist Church in Browns Illinois.

        Sending all my love to Joan, Mark, Kelly & Todd, as well as, the entire Duncan family. Uncle Jimmy was truly a special man & loved by all. I will remember all his stories fondly. Every time I visited he always had a smile on his face. My deepest heartfelt sympathy. He will be sadly missed.

        Sorry to hear about Jim’s passing. He was a high school classmate. He helped make our reunions lots of fun. Some years we played golf. He was loved by all. He will be missed.
