      James E. Carkuff, 54, of Collinsville, IL, passed away on Wednesday, September 18, 2024, at Belleville Memorial Hospital in Belleville, IL.

      He was born on November 5, 1969, in Granite City, IL, to James Edwin and Patricia Ann Woolf (nee Bickel). On December 17, 2019, he married the love of his life, Melissa (Gipson) Carkuff.

      He was a man of boundless love, unwavering strength, and quiet kindness. His life revolved around his adored wife and two daughters, whom he cherished with all his heart.

      James had a passion for travel, and together with his family, they created beautiful memories on trips to Springfield Ilinois, Memphis, Tennessee, South Branch, Michigan, Missouri, Texas. His joy was found in every adventure, big or small, as long as he was with the people he loved most. He enjoyed all the time he could be with his daughters, teaching them important life lessons like how to drive, teaching them how to cook his famous chicken strips, going to the science center and the zoo, spending time shopping, school dances, field trips, movies, singing, dancing, bbqing, always putting their happiness first.

      As the cornerstone of his family, James was their guiding light, providing support and love through every challenge and joy. His strength, wisdom, and generosity will forever live on in the hearts of those who knew him and so many that didn't.

      He is preceded in death by his parents, James Carkuff and Patricia Woolf. An angel "Baby Carkuff". Brother-in-law Dennis Gipson Jr and Michael Green.

      He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 18 yrs together, 4 years married, Melissa Gipson-Carkuff; children, Lilly Carkuff, McKenzie Carkuff, James “JC” Carkuff, Jeremy Carkuff, Devin Carkuff; his dad David Woolf of South Branch, Michigan. Siblings, Patricia, Tony, Dawn, Tammy, Wade of Texas; 4 grandchildren. numerous nieces, nephews. Mother-in-law Julia Ambrozat. Sister-in-law Tammy Gipson Green (DeeDee); brother-in-law Joseph Gipson (Amy). Dear and wonderful friend Becky Weiler who was his "adopted " sister. And numerous friends.

      His wish was to be an organ/tissue donor. And to be cremated.

      A celebration of life will be held at a later date.

      Memorials may be made to his wife and daughters.

      Uncle James was such a loving uncle. When I had my oldest son he was very much a handsome on great uncle. He would constantly pick him up from the babysitter and I’d find them both on their hands and knees playing with hot wheels and eating hot dogs. He will be greatly missed

      James was like a brother to me and a uncle to my son. Zeke loved hanging out with James and Playing The Playstation.. James was a amazing man and would give the shirt off his back… He made my sister Melissa so happy and the girls and her were his world… James you will be missed..

      My brother law James was one of kind. He was their when nobody else was. He was hard working man and was so strong and kind and loving. Most of all he loved his family. His wife my sister and his daughters my nieces was his ❤️. He would do anything for them. He will be miss dearly.

      James was a very loving man who love his wife and girls so much and would do anything for them or for anyone else he was always there for you no manner what , I never meet James he married my niece Melissa but in his voice you can tell he is a sweetheart , I wish I could of meet him but one day I will , James you are gone to be missed rip our sweet angel Love Aunt Lorraine

      My condolences to all the family members in this time of sorrow on the passing of James as I remember him as “Big Tree”. I was Little Stump” to him We went to high school together.
