  • Full Obituary

Harold E. Hamann, 86, of Lebanon, IL, passed away Saturday, October 22, 2022, at his home.

He was born December 22, 1935, to Elmer and Emma (nee Friess) Hamann, in Shiloh Valley Township, Belleville, IL.  On January 26, 1963, he married Joyce Morgan in Morgantown, KY.

Harold lived most of his life in this area, served in the United States Army, and was a member of St. Paul United Church of Christ, Lebanon, IL.

Harold attended Mascoutah High School, graduating in 1952, and Western University in Bowling Green, KY, graduating in 1964, where he earned his Bachelors’ degree in accounting.  He was a self-employed CPA since 1965. Harold was also a member of the Rotary Club in his active business days.

Harold could always make you laugh, enjoying a little teasing and poking fun.  He had a big heart (behind the teasing), was very honest, and had an extremely strong work ethic.  He was who he was, and always put the hours in to do what he needed to do, as a priority to take care of his family.  Family always came first for Harold, and he worked hard for his family and his life.

He enjoyed antiquing and loved going to auctions with his wife.  He and Joyce traveled to Europe, Japan, and went on an Alaskan cruise; he made sure they experienced life.  He loved his kids, loved being a “Pepaw” to the grandkids, and always enjoyed driving his garden tractor and hooking up the wagon to it, to give the grandkids rides.  Christmas was always the most special to Harold and Joyce, as they were often referred to as “Joy the World” and “Hark the Harold”.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Elmer and Emma Hamann; daughter, Kerri Preston; siblings, Dorothy (Vernon) Elliess, Kenneth (Jeanine) Hamann, Viola (Harvey) Tiberend, Armin (Norma Jean) Hamann, Lee Hamman (twin, in infancy) and Leo Hamann (twin, in infancy).

Harold is survived by his wife of 59 years, Joyce Hamann, Lebanon, IL; children, Kimberly (Will) Boyd, Kristina (Kent) Dunn; son-in-law, Chad Preston; grandchildren, Adam (Sara) Karraker, Alyson Boyd, Alexandria “Xandi” Dunn, Audrey Dunn, Meilan Dunn, Maude Preston, Briana (Brandon) Gray-Abbott; great grandchild, Aylin Karraker; siblings, Ralph (Jeanne) Hamann, Leroy (Judy) Hamann; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, (in honor of Kerri), or St. Paul UCC, Lebanon, IL.
