Gertrude Louise Rikli, nee Stoecklin, 99, of Highland, IL, died August 26, 2008 at the Greenville Regional Hospital, Greenville, IL. She was born April 10, 1909 in Highland, IL to Edward and Elise (Grossenbacher) Stoecklin, both deceased. On July 10, 1926, she married Carl Rikli who passed away on December 10, 1977.
Mrs. Rikli was a lifetime resident of Highland. She and husband owned and operated Rikli"s Swiss Kitchen for 32 years. After retiring to their farm, which is now Cambridge Acres subdivision, she and Mr. Rikli traveled extensively. After her husband's death she volunteered in several organizations. She was a lifelong member of the United Church of Christ in Highland, a member of the Church's Women's guild, a quilter, enjoyed singing with the Joy Singers, helped with the Hospital Auxiliary, and with Meals on Wheels. She was a member of Weinheimer Senior Citizens, the Public Library, Historical Society, Farm Bureau and was very interested in her family's Swiss history. She loved reading and doing crossword puzzles.
Survivors include a son, Robert I. (Mary) Rikli, Hillsboro, IL; Grandchildren: Patty (Marty) Niehaus, Hillsboro,IL, Carol (Michael) Ellsworth, Pocahontas, IL, Susan Rikli, Chicago, IL, Kristine Rikli, Austin, TX, David (Jennifer) Rikli, Highland, IL. 9 Great Grandchildren, Karla (Pasquale) Italiano, Smyrna, GA, Robin Niehaus, Indianapolis, IN, Renee (Josh) Gulledge, Mishawaka, IN, Clayton (Kristi) Ellsworth, Greenville, IL, Nathan Ellsworth, and Valerie Ellsworth, Pocahontas, IL, Nicholas (Apryl) Rikli, Highland, IL, Patrick Rikli, and Hillary Rikli of Highland, IL. One great-great Grandchild - Nikolle Rikli, Highland, IL, nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Rikli was also preceded in death by her son and daughter-in-law - Attorney Donald C. Rikli and wife Joan Rikli, her step mother, brothers Roland Stoecklin and Wallace Stoecklin, and sisters Melba Thiems and Esther Schmidt.
