George W. Iles, 82, of Browns, Illinois passed away on October 18, 2018 in Mt. Carmel, Illinois.
Private family service was held Monday, October 22, 2018 at Browns Cemetery. Burial followed. Arrangements were by Ingram-Meridith Funeral Home of Albion, Illinois.
George William Iles was born in Browns, Illinois to Jerauld and Neva (Goodbourn) on September 3, 1936. He went to school at Browns Grade School, Browns High School and Edwards County High School. He married Georganna Alka on February 9, 1957 at Fortney United Methodist Church in Grayville, Illinois. He was a member of the Browns United Methodist Church. He was a farmer in Edwards and Wabash County his entire adult life. He was involved in the Edwards County School Board and was on the board of the Edwards County Farm Bureau. George was fortunate enough to farm family ground for over 100 years, with the Iles Family Farm being designated an Illinois Centennial Farm. He loved his family, farming and antique tractors. Music was a favorite pastime and he was an accomplished musician. In addition to his tenor voice, he played the guitar, piano, organ, trombone and accordion.
George is preceded in death by his parents, and his sister and brother-in-law, Marjorie (Wayne) Hall.
George is survived by his wife, Georganna, five children, Galen (Kathy) of Browns, Gary (Jane) of Mt. Vernon, IL, Gina of Browns, George David (Bev) of Browns and Glen (Candace) of Browns, 5 grandchildren Brandy, Travis (Tracey), Gage, Katie and Chole Iles, and 2 great grandchildren Alicia and Justin Iles.
Pallbearers were Galen Iles, Gary Iles, George David Iles, Glen Iles, Travis Iles and Gage Iles
Memorials may be given to Browns Cemetery and may be given through Ingram-Meridith Funeral Home in Albion, Illinois. The family of George wishes to extend our sincere thank you to Oakview Heights in Mt. Carmel, Illinois for their kind and compassionate care of George, and to Residential Hospice for providing comfort and care during his last days.
