I took care of George for almost 5 years and we became really good friends. When he started to get really sick, I found it really difficult to take care of him and not cry because it felt so unfair that someone with the best attitude who never wanted or needed anything and never wanted to bother anyone was that sick. He maintained that attitude throughout….

We had tons of memories together! I would’ve done anything to make George smile. Over the past few weeks we have laughed, cried and sang together.

Once, a couple of weeks ago I was giving him a bath when he got back from the hospital. When I removed the blanket from his feet, something rolled down into the bed and all the staff thought it was George’s toe!!!! It ended up being an M&M and he said he had been caught, he was eating M&M’s in bed and didn’t know how it got way down there. Staff all had a good laugh and George did too… I admittedly spent a lot of time in George’s room finding little things I could do for him and he would find things to ask me to do too, just so we could talk for a little bit longer! I loved him dearly and this was by far my hardest loss as a nurse so far simply because he was one of the best people I’ve ever met
