Gatha Irene Suhre, 92, of Highland, IL, died Friday, September 17, 2021, at Cedarhurst of Highland.
She was born April 14, 1929, to Orville and Leola (nee Gentry) Galbraith on April 14, 1929. She married Gerald Dean Suhre on October 16, 1949, at Salem UCC in Alhambra, IL.
Gatha worked at the Marine Garment Factory and later at Alhambra Elementary School as a cafeteria worker from 1965 to 1977, when she quit to babysit her grandchildren. She enjoyed fishing, camping, and gardening, while also enjoying collecting bells and Precious Moments figurines. An avid quilt maker, Gatha always had a quilt set up in her living room every winter after Christmas was over. Gatha loved the time she spent babysitting her grandchildren and was later blessed to babysit her great-grandchildren. She loved her church and her family very much.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Orville and Leola Galbraith; husband, Gerald Suhre; grandson, Ryan Leonard Suhre; sisters, Betty (Gilbert) Ford and Frances (Jerry) Tracy.
Gatha is survived by her son, Leonard (Donna) Suhre, Alhambra, IL.; grandchildren, Dr. Christopher D. (Marlo) Suhre, Edwardsville, IL, Nicole S. (John) Dick, Fishers, IN; great-grandchildren, Noah, Aiden, Samantha, and Jillian Suhre, & Jacob and Evelyn Dick.
Memorials may be made to The First Baptist Church of Alhambra, the American Parkinson’s Disease Association-St. Louis Chapter, and the Alzheimer’s Association-St. Louis Chapter.
Visitation: Thursday, September 23, 2021, from 12:00 to 2:00 pm, at First Baptist Church, Alhambra, IL.
Funeral Service: Thursday, September 23, 2021, 2:00 pm, First Baptist Church, Alhambra, IL.
Interment: Salem Evangelical Cemetery, Alhambra, IL.
