Floyd A. Siebert, Jr., 90, of Galena, Ohio, passed peacefully on Tuesday, February 23, 2021.

An extraordinary man, Floyd was passionate about his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ; his family; and about people. He spent his years investing in people and their success. He did not define success as getting everything right, receiving awards or praise, but the simple fact that a person tried.

Floyd was born on January 15, 1931, in Springfield, Illinois, the son of Floyd A. and Irene (McCubbin) Siebert.

As a teen, he accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior. From that time, he actively served the Lord in all areas of his life.

Floyd graduated from the Springfield Junior College and Missouri Valley College with a bachelor’s in human relations. After graduation he served two years in the US Army as a Field Radio Instructor at Camp Chaffee, Arkansas.

A member of the Boy Scouts of America for 78 years, Floyd first joined a local troop at the age of 12. He earned his Order of the Arrow and Eagle Scout by the age of 16. He continued to participate in Scouting as a volunteer in summer camps. After discharge from the Army, he began what would be a 38-year career with the Boy Scouts of America, serving councils in Springfield, Illinois; South Bend, Indiana; and Dundee, Ann Arbor, Pontiac, Detroit and Saginaw/Bay City, Michigan. He was instrumental in leading the Lake Huron Area Council to Quality Council status.

Upon retirement he invested in his hobbies of photography, monarch butterflies and genealogy. In Midland, Michigan, he was on staff at Community Television Access and received Volunteer Leadership recognition. He was on the editorial staff for the Little Circus Wagon magazine. In Westerville, Ohio, he joined the Westerville Senior Center and began volunteering teaching classes in areas of his expertise, eventually focusing on teaching photography. He was instrumental in starting the digital photography program at the center. He went on to serve as a member on the board of the Westerville Senior Association. Upon the recommendation from his peers at the senior center, in 2014 Floyd was inducted into the Central Ohio Area Agency on Aging Senior Citizen Hall of Fame. In 2016 he received recognition for his service at the Westerville Senior Center when a bronze star was placed in his honor on their Star Wall.

On August 18, 1957, Floyd married the love of his life, Iona Jenkins. They enjoyed 51 years of marriage before she passed in 2009, and he continued to cherish her after. Floyd was dad to Louise (Gary) Feldmann, Mark (Laurie) Siebert and Lisa (Duane) Thompson. He was Grandpa to Jeff Feldmann, AJ Feldmann, Jon (Daniella) Siebert, Abbey (Stephen) Buettell, Amanda (Josh) Raines, Mariah (Walker) Dubiel, Keenan Siebert, Allora Thompson, and William Thompson. He was great grandpa to Stratton Siebert.

Along with his children and grandchildren, he is survived by his sisters Betty Walden and Carol Green, both of Springfield, Illinois, and many nephews and nieces. He was preceded in death by his parents, and brothers-in-law Harold Walden and Glenn Green.

The family will hold a private graveside service in Dundas, Illinois, with arrangements being handled by the Hosselton-Meridith Funeral Home in Cisne, Illinois.

In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made in Floyd’s memory to the Westerville (OH) Christian Church and may be sent to 471 E. College, Westerville, OH 43081; or, the Westerville (OH) Senior Association and may be sent to 350 N. Cleveland Avenue, Westerville, OH 43082.

Blessed is the one who does not walk in step with the wicked or stand in the way that sinners take or sit in the company of mockers, but whose delight is in the law of the Lord, and who meditates on his law day and night. That person is like a tree planted by streams of water, which yields its fruit in season and whose leaf does not wither—whatever they do prospers. Psalm 1:1-3
