      Eugene M. “Gene” McVaigh, age 90 of Calhoun, IL passed from this life to the next on May 31, 2020 at Carle Richland Memorial Hospital, Olney, IL.
      Gene was born on October 23, 1929 in Calhoun to Richard and Helen (Sanders) McVaigh.
      He was a Veteran of the Korean War.
      Gene was a farmer who also mowed and raked hay for other farmers and hauled livestock to market. He was a member of the West Salem Moravian Church.
      He was preceded in death by his parents, two wives, Glenna and Janet and two sons, Neal and Jimmy.
      Gene is survived by his wife, Judy McVaigh, son Albert “Bert” (Betty) McVaigh , grandchildren: Brian (Valerie) McVaigh, Amelia (Shawn) McPheron, Mitchell McVaigh, Rae McVaigh, Glenna McVaigh and great-granchildren: Lucas, Brock and Morgan.  Gene is also survived by stepchildren Diana (Steve) Smith,  Kevin (Linda) Perry, Laverne (Ruth) Yonaka and   Allan (Patty) Yonaka, step-grandchildren: Daniel Randolph, Bethany (Nicholas) Spitzner, Rebecca Staat, Ashley (Chad) Covalt, Jennifer Perry, Hayley Harms,  Darla Goff, Shaun Yonaka and Trent Yonaka  and step-great-grandchildren: Ben, Nate, Bradley, Jonathan, Jason, Brooke, Ava, Kristen, Karma, Roselynne, Alaina, Sophia and Peyton.
      In keeping with Gene’s wishes, cremation will take place and a memorial service will be announced at a later date.
      Memorials are encouraged to the West Salem Moravian Church.

      I will remember Gene as a quiet, kind man at church. He will be missed. Praying for the family.

      Gene was an inspiration to me.I enjoyed spending time with him whether it was drinking coffee or baling hay. I will miss him but I’m also happy for him as I know he won this life’s battle. I’m sure he is enjoying his reward.
