Emma Lou Smith, 77, passed from this life to the next on July 12, 2024, at Deaconess Hospital in Evansville, Indiana.

She was born on April 18, 1947, in McLeansboro, Illinois, to Uel and Betty (Morton) Campbell. Emma Lou married Oren E. Smith on August 26, 1967 at Brush Harbor Church in McLeansboro, Illinois. They enjoyed over thirty-two years of marriage until his passing in 2000.

Emma Lou was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Albion, Illinois. She also attended services at the House of Prayer in Albion, Illinois. She was a member of the Edwards County Historical Society, she enjoyed Search-A-Word books, and reading. Most of all, she loved her family and following her grandchildren’s lives and their activities. Emma Lou was the wife of the deputy sheriff for the Edwards County Sheriff’s Department in Albion, Illinois for 28 years and a sheriff’s wife.

She is survived by a daughter, Pamela Smith; a son Glenn (Sherena) Smith; two grandchildren, David Smith and Delaney Smith; a sister Jerrine Hall; nieces Stephanie Wilson and Lisa Carter; several great nieces and nephews; and several great great nieces and nephews also survive.

Emma Lou was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Oren E. Smith; an infant sister, JoAnn Campbell; and a brother-in-law David Hall.

Visitation for Emma Lou Smith will be held on Friday, July 26, 2024 from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at Ingram Meridith Funeral Home in Albion, Illinois. Funeral Services will be held following at 12:00 p.m. at Ingram Meridith Funeral Home in Albion, Illinois. Burial will follow in Graceland Cemetery at Albion, Illinois.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in memory of Emma Lou Smith to the Edwards County Senior Citizens. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.

Ingram Meridith Funeral Home of Albion is assisting the family with arrangements.

      Sending love and prayers to Pam and Glen and family. So sorry ! Your mom was a beautiful lady inside and out that I was honored to call my friend. She will definitely be missed by so many.
