  • Full Obituary

Elizabeth A. “Liz” Heuiser, 82, of Marine, IL, passed away on Tuesday, April 2, 2024, at Eden Village Glen Carbon Care Center in Glen Carbon, IL.

She was born on July 22, 1941, in Highland, IL, to John and Maybell (nee Hall) Bernhardt. On November 26, 1960, Liz married the love of her life, Dale Heuiser, at the Troy United Church of Christ in Troy, IL.

Liz has lived in Marine on the Heuiser Family Farm for 63 years, moving from Troy, IL, where she grew up and graduated from McCray-Dewey High School in 1959. She went through two years of cosmetology school in East St. Louis after graduating high school and opened her own hair salon in Marine for a few years. She then began her 50 plus year career in the banking industry, eventually retiring from FCB Bank in Collinsville, IL, as a Loan Officer. Liz was a member of the Marine United Church of Christ and the Order of the Eastern Star.

A woman of deep faith, Liz loved her church and volunteered her time often. She played bells and sang in the church choir, and sang, played the piano, and the organ, for weddings and funerals. Liz served as a board member for the Marine UCC and was always helping out at their chicken dinners.

Liz liked to go fishing with her husband at Kentucky Lake and bowled with the Sunday Night League and the Thursday Night Women’s League at Poplar Junction Bowl in Highland, IL. She enjoyed traveling; her and Dale making their way all over the United States going to various State and National Parks, cooking Sunday dinners, shopping with her granddaughters, and decorating/cooking/hosting for the holidays.

Above all else, Liz loved her family more than anything. She always went to her sons’ sports games as they grew up, and continued to follow their tractor pulls, stock car, go-kart, and quarter midget races. She was a people person, never knowing a stranger. A loving, patient, and kind person, Liz will be dearly missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing her.

She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Maybell Bernhardt; father and mother-in-law, Vernon and Nona Heuiser; sister-in-law, Audrey Frank.

Liz is survived by her husband of 63 years, Dale Heuiser, Marine, IL; sons, Dale (Sharon) Heuiser Jr., Marine, IL, Michael “Mike” (Karla) Heuiser, Marine, IL; grandchildren, Joshua “Josh” (Darlene) Heuiser, Meredith (Scott) Jackson, Jessica (Clint) Miller, Travis (Sara) Heuiser, Ryan (Kristine) Jorgensen, Justin (Jessica) Jorgensen, Jason (Chelsie) Jorgensen, Meghan Jorgensen; 18 great grandchildren, and one on the way.

Memorial donations may be made to Marine United Church of Christ, Marine, IL.

Liz played in the church bell choir, as well as singing in the choir, and we always had a great time, full of laughs, at practices and especially when we went to bell playing conferences. Such a fun personality. She will be dearly missed. The whole family has our sympathy.
