Dr. Judy L. Keeven, 70, of Highland, IL, died Thursday, February 9, 2023, at home, surrounded by her family.

Judy was born August 5, 1952, to Al and Agnes (nee Foppe) Keeven in St. Louis, MO.  After her father Al passed away, Agnes married Leonard Keeven, who raised her and her siblings.  On June 28, 1996, she married Stephen James Durbin in Edwardsville, IL.

Judy was an active member of St. Paul Catholic Church, where she enjoyed being a lector and participating in prayer groups.  She graduated from St. Louis University with a Doctorate Degree in Psychiatry, and served her residency at Pacific Medical Center in San Francisco, CA.  Judy then worked as Medical Director at various facilities around the state of Illinois, before starting her private practice in 1993, in Highland.  Psychiatry was her passion, always helping others.

She loved being around her family and traveling with her husband.  Her hobbies were beading bracelets and playing guitar.  She was a wonderful wife and mother, a dear sister and friend.  Judy was an advisor, a nurturer, a seasoned traveler, and always supportive.  She was kind, confident and loved; she will be missed by all who knew her.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Al Keeven, Leonard and Agnes Keeven; and sister, Linette Keeven.

Judy had a life before medical school; she was a nursing student and then a nurse. At St. Luke’s Hospital School of Nursing she was a shining light. Her superb intelligence, humor, and musical talent were enjoyed by all of us! Her laugh could light up a room, she could argue her way out of almost anything with her logic; and her larger-than-life personality kept the entire dormitory hopping. She cared about people with mental illness and her intelligence and drive went with her to medical school, her psychiatry residency, and later into the community to serve others. Her caring heart, her laugh, and her loving personality will be missed. I feel blessed to have known her.

I went to St Luke’s School of Nursing with Judy. I remember she was very dedicated and intelligent. Her smile could light up a room and he laugh could fill it. It sounds like she lived a rich and full life. I am sorry for the sadness and loss that Judy’s passing brings to your lives. May you find warmth someday again in the beautiful memories and love that you share. Love is eternal. Margaret Rahm Licata, St Luke’s class of 1973
