Dorothy Cattani Condellone Ley peacefully passed away on Wednesday, December 28, 2022, at St. Anthony’s Senior Living in Kansas City, Missouri. She lived a full life and was loved by many as a daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and friend.

Dorothy was born on May 5, 1923, in Collinsville, Illinois to Italian immigrant parents. She spent the first 95 years of her vibrant life in Collinsville where she is remembered for her generous hospitality that included delicious homemade cooking, competitive games of bocce ball, and entertaining friends and family that would often lead to singing and dancing throughout the evenings. She would welcome her guests with big hugs and light-hearted jokes as the radiating scents from her kitchen resembled those of fine Italian cuisine; ravioli, mostaccioli, bagna cauda, cookies, and breadsticks were some of her specialties. “Mangia mangia,” she would call out when it was time to eat. Full bellies and a room of laughter were always present when Dorothy was entertaining.

Dorothy represented the values of the Greatest Generation perfectly as her service to others was second-to-none. During times of war, she served as a seamstress for military uniforms and used the same skill for priest vestments throughout her life. If you were fortunate enough to witness her multiple hole-in-ones on the golf course, there’s a good chance she pulled that ball from a golf bag she made herself. A woman of strong faith, she served Ss. Peter and Paul Catholic Church with a tremendous amount of pride and would not let a day pass without praying the Rosary with special intentions for her family, friends, and others in need.

At the age of 95, she moved to Kansas City to be closer to her daughter and other family members where she spent the last four years laughing, singing, sharing stories, and celebrating with anyone she was near.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her husbands, Angelo Condellone and Edwin Ley; her parents, Charles and Anna Cattani; three brothers, Eugene Cattani, Albert Cattani, and Morris Cattani; three sisters, Margaret Bollinger, Louise Scott, and Alvera Dimmic; and her son, Peter Condellone.

She is survived by a daughter, Pamela Davidson of Kansas City, Mo.; three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to Ss. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Collinsville, Ill.

Visitation: Friends may call from 9 to 10 a.m. Wednesday, January 4, 2023, at Ss. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Collinsville, Ill.

Funeral: Funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, January 4, 2023, at Ss. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Collinsville, Ill. Burial will follow the funeral service as her body will be laid to rest at Ss. Peter and Paul Cemetery, Collinsville, Ill.
