Doris K. Snead (nee Kastner) of Lebanon, IL, born June 16, 1922, in Chicago, Illinois, died Tuesday, September 17, 2013, at Missouri Baptist Hospital, St. Louis, MO.
Doris was a homemaker and “professional volunteer.” As an Air Force wife, she was chairperson of women’s club activities, an excellent caterer and wedding coordinator, a member of History Club of Lebanon, PEO and active in many ways with her long membership in the 1st United Methodist Church in Lebanon, IL.
Doris was a 42-year nursing assistant volunteer of the American Red Cross at Scott AFB, IL. Since 1961, when she moved to Lebanon with her family, Doris was a friend and supporter of McKendree College. Active in social and charitable activities at the College, she chaired the 1st Alumni Fund Raising Campaign and was also Director of Development for McKendree during the 1960’s.
She loved her family and people in general and was always willing to lend a helping hand where needed. A devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother, she will be greatly missed.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Arnold and Evelyn (Berndt) Kastner, and her sister, Audrey Mack.
Surviving are her husband of 67 years, Vernon; children Michael of San Francisco, CA, Nancy Heldmann of Elgin, IL, Greg (Linda) of St. Louis, MO, Debra of Denver, CO, and Patricia (Todd) Rock of Temple, TX; 7 grandchildren, Jonathon (Beth) Heldmann, Kristina (Brad) Kayden, Nicholas, Zachary and Taylor Snead, Gehrig and Caroline Rock; 5 great grandchildren.
In Lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Lebanon 1st United Methodist Church, 603 W. St. Louis Street, Lebanon, IL 62254.
