      Donald H. “Don” Ottensmeier, 77, of Highland, IL passed away at Breese Nursing Home with his family by his side on Thursday, March 21, 2024.

      He was born September 25, 1946, to Leo and Leona (nee Poettker) Ottensmeier. Don attended St. Paul Catholic Schools and was a member of St. Paul Catholic Church.

      Don was also involved with the Madison County Farm Bureau and Dairy Farmers of America. He enjoyed cutting grass, driving Case IH tractors and farm equipment, and milking the dairy cows on Ottensmeier Brothers Farm. In his free time, Don liked to watch NASCAR, WWE, and the Indy 500.

      He was a very hardworking man, loved being a farmer, and never turned down his mother’s homemade pies, cookies, and cakes. A proud uncle, Don kept track of his nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews’ sports stats. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

      He was preceded in death by his parents, Leo and Leona Ottensmeier; sister, Rita Holzinger; nephew, Randy Petroski; brother-in-law, Ed Petroski; and sister-in-law, Norma Ottensmeier.

      Don is survived by siblings, Joan Petroski, Ralph Ottensmeier, Lorraine (Ron) Vosholler, Gervase (Kathy) Ottensmeier, Ken Ottensmeier; many nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews.

      Memorial donations may be made to St. Paul Catholic Church or the family.

      Private services will be held.

      Interment: St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery

      I am very sorry for your loss, he had a lot to remember him by. It is always a difficult time loosing a family member, friend!
