    Dona Joan Maas, 87 of West Salem, IL went home to be with her Lord and Savior on January 5, 2020 at Carle RMH in Olney, IL.

    She was born on May 5, 1932 in West Salem, IL to Dale and Vera (Thompson) Feldman. She married Donald Maas on November 25, 1951 at the Moravian Church in West Salem and he survives.

    Dona was a homemaker and worked at Champion Labs for 25 years. She thoroughly enjoyed singing and quilting. She was a member of the Moravian Church, and the Moravian traditions were of utmost importance to her. She enjoyed fellowship and reaching out to others. Dona was a strong woman; a loving, caring, and supportive mother and grandmother. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were her true pride and joy.

    She leaves wonderful memories to be cherished by her husband of 68 years, Don of West Salem; her daughter, Billie (Henry) Ortiz of Flower Mound, TX; her four grandchildren: Jill (Chad) Greenwood of Olney, IL, Sara Lupfer of Poseyville, IN, Amy (Troy) Kitley of Flora, IL, and Tawny Ortiz of Dallas, TX; her ten great-grandchildren: Jace, Kristen, and Carley Greenwood, Emma, Halle, and Landree Kitley, Kennedy Hallam, Camden and Carson Lupfer, and Scarlette Flemmons; and her brother, Marion “Sonny” Feldman of Euless, TX.

    Dona was preceded in death by her parents; her daughter and son-in-law Debbie Colvin and John Colvin; and her sister, Saundra Neel.

    Visitation will be held Wednesday, January 8, 2020 from 6 to 8 p.m. in the Hauser Room of the West Salem Moravian Church. A Celebration of Life Service will be held Thursday, January 9 at 10 a.m. in the church sanctuary. Burial will follow in the Moravian Cemetery.

    In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions to the Moravian Church are encouraged. Envelopes will be available at the service.

    Amy,
    I may not have met your grandmother, but I can tell how close the two of you were. You will always have her in you heart. I feel that she is in peace with the Lord and in His arms.

    Many wonderful memories of Dona throughout the wears at the Moravian Church. You always knew she would be there, whether there was a service or any activity going on. She was a blessing to others! Sympathies to Don and the entire family!

    So sorry to hear about your sister Donna. I worked with her at Champion in west Salem we lived there 10 years and then moved to Rose Hill, il. Donna was a very nice person a lovely woman. She reminds me so much of her Mother. Sorry we won’t be down. But would love to see you. You have been in my thoughts and prayers.

    Don and family….you may not remember me but my cousin Nadine Schmidt was from your church and lived close. I have stopped by and talked to both of you in the past. My sympathy to you and the family, Nadine thought a lot of both of you and thanks for your years of faithful work at the cemetery also…
    My prayers are with you at this sad time…
