  • Full Obituary

Dee Oliver Spencer, age 95 of Browns, IL passed from this life to the next on September 2, 2018 at the Linda E. White Hospice House in Evansville, IN.
Dee was born in Hillard, MO on June 22, 1923 to Henry Rufus and Sylvia Mae (Richardson) Spencer. He married Edith Lorraine Moody on November 4, 1944 at her parents’ home in Browns, IL and they almost reached the 74-year milestone of marriage.
Dee and Lorraine enjoyed square dancing and camping. He was a rural letter carrier for 30 years and although he officially retired, he truly never “retired” since he loved staying active. Those activities included mowing his yard; which he continued to do up until the summer of 2017. He also maintained his drivers ‘ license and his independence for as long as he possibly could. He was faithful to his marriage vows and visited his wife on a regular basis after her entry into the nursing home. Both Dee and Lorraine attended the Browns United Methodist Church, where they were life-long members.
Dee enjoyed spending time with his children, grandchildren and their children and even created a special patio spot that he creatively nicknamed “the Hoopie”.
He was preceded in death by his parents, 4 brothers: Clyde, Floyd, Maurice and Lennie, and one grandson, Michael Kevin Spencer.
He leaves many precious memories to cherish to his wife, Lorraine, their children (in order of their birth): Ted (Wendy) Spencer of Crestview, FL, Elaine (Don) Frankland of Bloomington, IN, Tony (Kimberly) Spencer of Fairfield, IL and Doug (Stephanie) Spencer of Browns, IL, 17 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren and 10 great-great grandchildren and one sister, Vita Luttrell of Decatur, IL.
Visitation will be held on Thursday September 6, 2018 from 10AM to Noon at Ingram-Meridith Funeral Home in Albion, IL.
Funeral service will begin at noon at the funeral home, followed by burial in Browns Cemetery, Browns, IL.
Memorials may be made to the Browns Cemetery Fund.
