I will remember Debra not just for working together but for a personal reason. My friend in Dallas found a lost dog roaming her neighborhood. Could not find the owner so she wanted me to get him. No way was I driving alone to/from Dallas, esp in January, nor was I flying a dog back that I knew nothing about. Debra heard me talking. She was leaving for Dallas the following day to teach for 4 weeks. Debra offered to drive me and the dog back to St. Louis. I took her up on her offer, flew down, and we rode home together. If not for Debra, I would not have had my little poodle for 11 years. Debra was a somewhat private person, but during our trip, I learned a lot about her. After that, we formed a bond during our time together at work. My sympathies go out to John and all her family.

So hard to believe Debi is gone from us. I remember playing duets as we went through high school and attending music camp together several summers. Music camp was as much about fun as it was about music. Ginger, Deb and I had a lot of good times together. And we shared our struggles. I will really miss her. Hugs to the family. Linda

My heartfelt condolences are extended to the Dufek Family as they Celebrate the Life, Love and Legacy of their Beloved Debra, A Wife, Sister, Aunt and Friend. I’m not certain when Deb was promoted to the supervisory role of Appeals Team Manager (Collection) in the Illinois Appeals Office (Chicago IL). I was a frontline employee on another team. However, I began an acting assignment as an Appeals Team Manager (Examination) in March 2010. Our friendship blossomed when I sought her mentorship to successful navigate newfound management duties and responsibilities. Because of her clear, concise and detailed instructions, I gained a worth of knowledge and experience which enabled me to apply and become permanently promoted as a manager. Deb and I became friends and confidantes until 2017 when she retired. What I loved about Deb was that she had a brilliant mind, she was a stickler for detail, she knew the IRS Laws, Codes and Regulations as well as the Internal Revenue Manual. She had so much management experience. As peers, I also saw a softer side of Deb. We laughed, we had wonderful conversations and we had a great respect for each other and the IRS experience we brought to our individual roles as managers. Deb didn’t believe in short cuts, neither did I, and she was respected because she was always fair. I took an temporary assignment in 2014 which ended in 2016. Deb wanted me to come back to manage along side her. I saw my future heading in a different direction. Because she was very understanding, she gave me the ultimate gift, guidance which would help me get my dream job. Because of her support and encouragement, I positioned myself to receive an offer for this job. Gratefully, I got that job and retired in 2018 after 40 years of service. I would not have been able to navigate those seven years without Deb. I truly miss her. Rest In Heaven, My Friend.

Debra was my supervisor for over ten years. She was very knowledgeable and could be relied upon if anyone needed help. She was well respected by her peers. Not many people who met Debra will forget her. No one worked harder or cared as much as Debra. She will be missed. Every one was sad to hear of her passing

I got to know Debi as a good friend in Music Camp and her first year at Illinois Weslyan. Her father was always nice to me and she was a warm and caring frien.
