Dean M. Saathoff, 79, of Grantfork, IL, died Saturday, August 25, 2012, at St. Joseph Hospital, Highland, IL.
Dean was born July 6, 1933 to Rufus and Lucille (nee Molloy) Saathoff, in Sorento, IL. On September 27, 1952 he married Sue Thacker in Edwardsville, IL.
Dean was a truck driver for Teamsters Locals 600 and 525. He drove for many trucking companies including Bellm Freightlines, Highland, IL. He was a member of Leef Township Senior Citizens Organization.
He was a good husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and a good friend.
He is survived by his wife, Sue Saathoff, Highland, IL; 4 children, Bradley (Marlene) Saathoff, Boerne, TX, Steve (Barb) Saathoff, Maryville, IL, Kim (Fred) Houchlei, Sorento, IL, Joe (Yuka) Saathoff, Highland, IL; 9 grandchildren, Jared Saathoff, Corey, Travis and Amber Saathoff, Josh (Shannon) Houchlei, Jenny and Jake Houchlei, Jonny and Naomi Saathoff; 5 great-grandchildren, Miles, Shelby, Stella, Sadie, and Ava; 1 sister, DeVeta Kistler.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Rufus and Lucille Saathoff; 1 grandson, Christopher Saathoff.
Memorials may be made to the Christopher Saathoff Foundation or Shriner’s Hospital, St. Louis, MO.
Visitation: Tuesday, August 28, 2012, from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m., and Wednesday, August 29, 2012, from 8:00 to 10:00 a.m. at Meridith Funeral Home, Highland, IL.
Graveside Service: Wednesday, August 29, 2012, immediately following visitation, at Sunnyside Cemetery, Sorento, IL.
