    David L. “Dave” Caperton, 82, of Marine, IL, passed away on Tuesday, September 6, 2022, at his home.

    He was born on August 25, 1940, in Ada, OK, to James T. and Euna O. (nee Mann) Caperton. Dave married Shirley Noeltner on May 30, 1964, at St. Elizabeth Catholic Church in Marine, IL.

    Dave graduated from Ada High School in Ada, OK, in 1958. He later served in the U.S. Army from 1959 to 1969 at the Marine Nike Base in Marine, IL. Dave worked as a boiler maker at Shell Oil Company in Wood River, IL, before retiring in 1994.

    Dave liked working with his hands, owning his own woodworking shop after retirement. His other hobbies included bowling, fishing, and gardening. Dave’s greatest joy in life was his family, especially his grandkids who fondly called him “Paw Paw”. Dave was a loving and caring husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather who will be missed dearly.

    He was preceded in death by his parents, James T. and Euna O. Caperton.

    Dave is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Shirley Caperton, Marine, IL; children, Eddie (Leasa) Caperton, Highland, IL,  James (Tressa) Caperton, St. Jacob, IL; grandchildren, Megan (Jeremy) Kovarik, Zachary Caperton, Brooke Caperton; great grandson, Henry David Kovarik; and brother, Steven Brecheen.

    Memorials may be made to the Marine Fire Department or the American Heart Association.

    Visitation: Friday, September 9, 2022, from 10:00 to 11:00 am, at St. Elizabeth Catholic Church, Marine, IL.

    Mass of Christian Burial: Friday, September 9, 2022, 11:00 am, St. Elizabeth Catholic Church, Marine, IL.

    Clergy: Fr. Paul Habing, Pastor, St. Elizabeth Catholic Church

    Interment at a later date.

    Meridith Funeral Home, Highland, IL

    Shirley and family. I am very sorry to hear of Dave’s passing. May you find comfort in knowing he is resting in God’s loving arms. I have very fond memories of the times we all shared together . Dave and Jim are partying in heaven.❤️
