      David C. Pagan, 98, of Highland, IL, died Thursday, May 23, 2019, peacefully in his home surrounded by his family and friends.

      David was born October 21, 1920, to Leroy and Grace (nee Gannon) Pagan in Pocahontas, IL.  On January 1, 1961, he married Bonnie Ambuehl in Grantfork, IL.

      David was a proud member of VFW Post #5694, Highland, IL and Laborers’ Local #100 in East St. Louis, IL.

      He lived in this area for most of his life.  In his younger years, David spent his summers playing baseball with area leagues and continued playing ball while enlisted in the Army.  David proudly served our country in WWII, B-Battery of the 78th division, 309 Field Artillery Battalion.  He stayed in touch with his fellow comrades and always made sure to keep in touch through the years; celebrating reunions.  David was an avid fisherman and hunter.  He loved fishing and running trotlines, and could often be found in the woods hunting mushrooms.  He had a passion for gardening and was famous for his canned peppers.   David leaves behind lasting memories for his family to enjoy.

      David is survived by his son. John Pagan, Highland, IL; nephew, Dave (Jeannie) Fenton, Highland, IL; many dear friends.

      He was preceded in death by his wife, Bonnie Pagan (2001); parents, Leroy and Grace Pagan; sister, Margaret Fenton.

      A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.

      He was one of my oldest cousin in the family he be missed
