David C. Kutz, 64, of Highland, IL, passed away on Monday, January 29, 2024, at HSHS St. John’s Hospital in Springfield, IL.

He was born on April 3, 1959, in Salt Lake City, UT, to John and Geraldine (nee Bevering) Kutz Sr. David married Toby (nee Davis) Kutz on October 8, 1988, at the E&R Church in Highland, IL.

David has lived in Highland for the last 10 years, having moved from Pocahontas, IL. He graduated from Highland High School in 1978, going on to work for Hulcher as a train wrecker from ’78 to the early ‘90’s, then he was in the Laborers Union doing road construction for about 15 years. David was a hardworking man, owning several businesses in Pocahontas including the Sit-n-Bull Saloon and Double Dipper Ice Cream Shop. He also worked for the family business, Jet Lite, with his brothers. Before moving to Highland, David was a member of St. Nicholas Catholic Church in Pocahontas, then became a member of St. Paul Catholic Church in Highland.

David enjoyed playing euchre, cards, dominos, and mushroom hunting with his friends and family. He liked the Chinese Buffett in Breese and playing the lotto, buying many scratch off tickets in his lifetime. David was fond of traveling, especially to California while his son was stationed there, and Florida.

David was a family man, loving to spend time with them and do family dinners almost every Sunday. He was funny, loved to gossip, and always had a story to tell. Generous and kind to a fault, David would give you his last dollar if you needed it. A loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend, David will be missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him.

He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Geraldine Kutz Sr.; wife, Toby Kutz; son, Kyle Kutz; siblings, John Kutz Jr., Barbara Kutz, Margaret Jakel, Danny Kutz; and brother-in-law, Steve Thornton.

David is survived by his children, Amy Kutz, Sarah (Nick) Jett, Lindsey (David) Jackson, Connor (significant other, Desiree Hall) Kutz; grandchildren, Timmy (Shani) Iberg, Karley Iberg, Natalie Iberg, Jayden Thomas, Madyson Jett, Macy Jett, Brantley Jackson, Dierks Jackson, Cruz Jackson, Presley Jackson, Kayden Kutz; great grandchildren, Addilyn Iberg, Kyler Iberg; first wife, Vicky (nee Mason) West; siblings, Melanie (Duane) Steiner, Bill (Sheila) Kutz, Mary Sue Kutz, Ann “Dolly” Thornton, Joe (Sam) Kutz, Elizabeth “Liz” Kutz, Linda (significant other, Garry Werner) Wiese; brothers-in-law, Bob Jakel, Howard (Rebecca) Davis Jr.; sisters-in-law, Karen (Ronnie) Hicks, Diane Kutz; many nieces and nephews.
