Daniel J. Korte, 81 of Highland, IL, passed away on Wednesday, November 6, 2024, at St. Joseph Hospital in Highland, IL.
He was born on July 23, 1943, in Highland, IL, to Anton and Minnie (nee Goestenkors) Korte. On September 27, 1969, he married Elizabeth “Bunny” Hoffmann at St Paul Church, Highland, IL.
Daniel was a former member of the Highland Jaycees. He grew up on the farm and graduated from St. Paul High School, Highland, IL, in 1961. In 1962 he joined the Air Force and served for 4 years. Upon returning to Highland in 1966 he went to work for Korte Construction Co. and retired 37 years later in 2003. Daniel loved his Allis Chalmers and John Deere lawn mowers. He collected model tractors and other model farm equipment and antique tools. Daniel was one of the good ones. He loved his wife, children and grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Anton and Minnie Korte; siblings, Vince Korte, Lorraine Jakel, Bob “Rocky” Korte, George Korte, Ray Korte, Marie Huelsmann, Margie Rohling; son-in-law, David Mayfield; brothers and sisters-in-law, John Foederer, Lester Pender, Linette Korte, Harvey Jakel, Ed Plocher, Denny “Zip” Zobrist, JoAnn Korte, Eileen Korte, Ed Huelsmann, Ruth Korte, Paul Rohling; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Nelson and Lillian (Dill) Hoffmann.
Daniel is survived by his wife, Bunny Korte; daughter, Michelle Korte; son, Mark (Jennifer) Korte; granddaughters, Madison (significant other Bob Waters) Korte, Emma Korte; grandsons, Landon, Jacob & Grayson Korte; great grandson, Carter Waters; brothers, Larry (Ethel) Korte, Ralph (Donna) Korte, Dave Korte; sisters, Ann Plocher, Millie Foederer Pender, Barb Zobrist; sister-in-law, , Edy Korte; special “nephew” Matt (Wendy) Haar; many nieces and nephews.
Memorial donations may be made to Tunnel to Towers (T2T.org), Wounded Warrior Project or St Jude Children's Research Hospital.
Visitation: Tuesday, November 12, 2024, from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm and Wednesday, November 13, 2024, from 8:00 am to 9:30 am, at Meridith Funeral Home, Highland, IL
