Carolyn Robinson, 82, of Collinsville, IL, passed away Tuesday, November 21, 2023, at University Care Center, in Edwardsville, IL.

She was born December 27, 1940, in East St. Louis, IL, to Kenneth and Ruby (nee Stibbens) Gartside. On November 11, 1967, she married the love of her life, LeRoy J. Robinson, Jr., in Glen Carbon, IL.

Carolyn worked as a teacher’s aide for the CUSD 10 for over 20 years before her retirement. She grew close with the Lord and was saved in 1974 while attending a Billy Graham crusade, from there she became a member of the Meadow Heights Baptist Church in Collinsville, IL.

When Carolyn was in the third grade her teacher, Ms. Rinker, gave her a book about birds in North America which sparked her fascination and love of birds, especially cardinals and hummingbirds. She loved to watch the birds from the porch of her home in Collinsville. It wasn’t uncommon for them, along with white-tailed deer, to visit her birdfeeder outside her room at University Care Center, either. Every year for Mother’s Day, LeRoy would buy himself and Carolyn a fishing license so they could fish and camp at Carlyle and Crab Orchard.

She loved her family dearly, especially game nights and spending time with her grandchildren when they were younger. Carolyn was a treasured mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend, and will be dearly missed by all who knew her.

She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 56 years, LeRoy J. Robinson, Jr.; parents, Kenneth and Ruby Gartside; and one infant sister.

Carolyn is survived by her children, Carrie (John) Baker, Donald (Donna) Robinson, Leanne (Doug) Burgess; grandchildren, Adam (Carrie) Baker, Ben (Andrea) Baker, Tiffany (Dustin) Buckner, Brittany Robinson, Douglas (Robyn) Burgess, Jr., Danielle (Kyle) Moore, Destiny (Josh) Figge; great-grandchildren, Braxton, Zach, Everett, Kennedy, Jaclynn, Lucas, Theodora; sister, Kathy (Ted) Schott; nieces, nephews, and many loving friends.

Memorials may be made to The Burgess Family.

Carol was a joy to spend time with and I’m so thankful that she is with her first love JESUS. She made an impact on the world around her because she loved like JESUS she also raised her children to be kind, loving and tenacious. Carol’s sweet nature and loving kindness will forever be a fond memory to me. I’m so grateful for the privilege to be her neighbor. Her children have been a great blessing to me too.
