Carl E. Weiss, 75 of Highland, IL died December 30, 2009 at Willow Creek Nursing Center, Belleville, IL. He was born September 25, 1934 to Edgar E. and Ordella (nee Hartlieb) Weiss, both deceased. He married Jeanne E. Burk on June 2, 1954, in Lebanon, IL, and after 55 years of marriage, she preceded him in death, August 1, 2009.
Also preceded in death by a sister, Genelle Hediger, his in-laws, Edgar “Bud” and Madella Burk and a brother-in-law, Lowell Burger.
Carl is survived by three sons, and two daughters: Steven (Cathy) Weiss, Highland, IL; Todd (Pamela) Weiss, Highland, IL; Tara Weiss-Pilz, chesterfield, MO; Chad Weiss (special friend, Bobbie Holt), Highland, IL; Stephanie “Teffy” (Steven) Price, Highland, IL; 14 grandchildren: Justin (Riva) Weiss, Highland; Charlotte Weiss, Bourbonnais, IL; Kristin Weiss, Highland; Marty Weiss, Taflin, Jordan; Nic Weiss, Highland; Steven Weiss, Highland, Ryne Weiss, Highland; Shaina Gross, Highland; Shannon Weiss, Highland; Siarra Price, Highland; Benjamin Price, Highland; Chaz Pilz, Chesterfield, MO; Briar Weiss, Highland; Alexandra Pilz, Chesterfield, MO; one great grandchild: Wyatt Weiss, Highland, IL; one sister: Loretta (Aaron) Hencke, Highland, IL.
After graduation, he worked at T. Pabst Architects in Highland, IL; then to Bauer Bros, advancing to General Manager; he then partnered to start Weiss-Holland Construction, then to Carl E. Weiss Construction.
Carl was a Mason, Shriner in the Scottish Rite. A Hobby farmer of grain and livestock, raising Hereford cattle specifically, at family farms in Highland and Millersburg, IL. He liked making his own sausage. He enjoyed peaceful evenings sitting on his porch with his wife, watching Cubs Baseball, and playing cards with friends and family. He also liked to go mushroom hunting. And really enjoyed travelling to Arizona for the Cubs Spring training. His High School Year Book Motto: “He knows the way to Lebanon well. He thinks the girls down there are swell. On the court he does his share. He never has refused a dare.”
