Carl A. "Smitty" Smith, Jr, 59, of Lebanon, IL died June 20, 2008, south of Summerfield, IL. He was born north of Lebanon, IL on June 29, 1948 to Carl A. and Edna W. (Rochell) Smith, Sr. and they both survive. He married Betty Jo Runyan on March 17, 1984 at the First Methodist Church, Lebanon, IL, and she survives.
Also survived by: three daughters, and one son: Carley Jo (Randy) Chambers, Arnold, MO; Richard Carl Smith, Lebanon, IL; Michelle (Asa) Turner, Sterling, Alaska; Kimberly Ann Holt, Blue Springs, MO; 10 Grandchildren - A.J., Shelby, Drew, Arend, Atley, Coleby, Lindsy, Kaelyn, Colin, and Chloe. 3 Sisters: Diane Bohannon, Lebanon, IL; Pat (Bob) Moss - South Carolina; Kathy (Terry) Rutherford - Tennessee; Several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his son, James "J.R." Smith ( May 13, 2008).
He was a veteran and served in the US Army; his occupation was an Electronic Engineer Mechanic at Bo Beuchmann and then Jack Schmitt Ford, in Collinsville, IL, for more than 30 years where he also served as a shop steward.
Member of St. Paul UCC, Lebanon, IL; The Singers' Society of Lebanon; Lebanon Volunteer Fire Department; Machinists District 9 Local 313 of Caseyville; Shiloh Eagles, BPO Elk Lodge 664, Fairview Hgts, IL.
VISITATION: Monday, June 23rd from 4:00-8:00 p.m. at the Meyer Funeral Home then Tuesday at the Church from 10:00 - 11:00 a.m.
FUNERAL: Tuesday, June 24th at St. Paul UCC, Lebanon, IL at 11:00 a.m. with the Rev. Dr. Don Wagner, Pastor officiating, with burial in College Hill Cemetery, Lebanon, IL.
Memorials may be offered to the family.
