Bruce “Slim” Provence, 73, of Caseyville, IL, passed away on Monday, December 13, 2021, at Missouri Baptist Hospital in St. Louis, MO.
He was born on December 27, 1947, to William B. and Louise W. (nee Williams) Provence, in Granite City, IL.
Bruce was born and raised in Granite City, IL before he moved Caseyville where he spent the later years of his life. He honorably served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. Bruce worked for the Turner Electric Company for almost 20 years. In his retirement he was an avid scrap collector, he was always able to find value in the things that others couldn’t. After a long day of scrapping, you could find Bruce watching Formula 1 racing, or at Lyle’s Tavern in Maryville, where everybody knew his name. Bruce was a kind and caring soul, he was always looking to give back to his community and those close to him, especially the Illinois Center for Autism in Fairview Heights, IL. Even in his passing, Bruce is continuing to help others by anatomical donation through St. Louis University School of Medicine.
He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Louise Provence; and brother, Nelse Provence.
Bruce is survived by his niece, Sonya Provence; two nephews, Ross Provence, and Nelson Provence; many loving friends, including the family of Vernon Swally and Bryan Guetterman and his family at Lyle’s Tavern.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Illinois Center for Autism.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
