Betty J. Koch, 74, of Highland, IL, died Sunday, January 22, 2012, at St. Louis University Hospital, St. Louis, MO, with her daughter by her side.
Betty was born April 17, 1937, to Oren and Edna (nee Gaffner) Childerson, in Clinton County, near Beaver Prairie. On February 7, 1959 she married Larry Koch. This marriage ended in 1983.
Betty worked in the Admitting Office at St. Joseph Hospital, Highland, IL and also as a cashier at Tom Boy and Super Valu grocery stores, Highland, IL.
She was a member of Highland Hope United Methodist Church, Highland, IL. She loved watching her grandchildren play sports. She was one of their biggest fans, never missing a game. She was very friendly, outgoing and loved to be around people.
She is survived by her daughter, Jean (Steve “Skip”) Gall, Highland, IL; grandchildren, Lauren (Jason) Dauksch, Highland, IL, Corey Gall, Highland, IL; 3 sisters, Rita Pellazari, Granite City, IL, Jane Childerson, Cahokia, IL, June Childerson, Pocahontas, IL; 1 sister-in-law, Caroline Childerson, Highland, IL; numerous nieces and nephews; great-nieces and great-nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Oren and Edna Childerson; 4 brothers, Veryl, Wayne, Elvin, and Kenneth Childerson; 2 sisters, Donna Boaz and Shirley Childerson.
Memorials may be made to Highland Hope United Methodist Church, Greene Cemetery, or Faith Countryside.
Visitation: Thursday, January 26, 2012, from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Meridith Funeral Home, Highland, IL, and Friday, January 27, 2012 from 9:00 to 10:00 a.m. at Highland Hope United Methodist Church, Highland, IL.
