    Betty A. Volz (Nee Barnes), 89, of Highland, IL, formerly of Alhambra, IL, died, Saturday, August 08, 2015, at Legacy Place, Highland, IL.

    Betty was born in Hillsboro, IL, on July 13, 1926, to Irvin and Frances (Nee Roseman) Barnes.  On June 16, 1946, she married Alfred Volz at Salem United Church of Christ, Alhambra, IL.

    Betty was a member of Salem United Church of Christ, Alhambra, IL, American Legion Auxilliary, Salem Women’s Guild, Hitz Memorial Home Board of Directors, Southwestern Illinois Area Agency on Aging. 

    She moved to Alhambra in 1943 and graduated from Highland High School in 1944. She worked for Shell Oil Co. until 1947, then at Alhambra Grantfork Feed Co until 1954.  She also worked for Alhambra Grantfork Telephone Co. for 2 years, then to SIUE as an Accountant in the Accounts Receivable department, retiring in 1987.  She enjoyed reading books, travelling, crocheting, knitting and spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

    She was preceded in death by her parents, Irvin and Frances Barnes; her son, David L. Volz.

    She is survived by her husband, Alfred L. Volz, Highland, IL; daughter, Nancy J. Taylor, Highland, IL; daughter-in-law, Debbie Volz, Edwardsville, IL; 3 grandchildren, Todd (Trina) Volz, Travis (Shannon) Volz, Derrick (Ailee) Taylor; 6 great-grandchildren; sister, Carol L. (Bob) Dauderman, Alhambra, IL; nieces and nephews.

    Memorials may be made to Salem United Church of Christ or Hitz Memorial Home.

    Visitation: Monday, August 10, 2015, from 4:00 to 7:00 pm and Tuesday, August 11, 2015, from 8:00 to 10:00 am at Salem United Church of Christ, Alhambra, IL.

    Funeral: Tuesday, August 11, 2015 at 10:00 am at Salem UCC.

    Clergy: Rev. Jerry Amiri, Pastor

    Interment: Salem Cemetery
