    Bernice Elizabeth Dickerson, 93, of Collinsville, IL, passed away on Sunday, August 22, 2021 at home with family by her side.

    She was born December 10, 1927, on the family farm in Troy, IL to Arnold and Ella (nee Noeltner) Niehaus. On June 3, 1947 she married Melvin P. Friederich who preceded her in death on March 11, 1975. Bernice later married Leonard R. Dickerson on April 7, 1989.

    She was a 1947 graduate of McCray Dewey High School in Troy (Triad). Bernice was a member of the Ss. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Ss. Peter and Paul Altar & Rosary Society Daughters of Isabella, she was also a Girl Scout Leader and retired after 10 years from Pfizer, Inc.  Bernice enjoyed being around people and was happiest when she was with her children, grandchildren, family and friends. Her and Leonard enjoyed going to dances and traveling to Alaska, Australia, Hawaii, Spain and throughout the U.S. making many new friends.  Bernice enjoyed her bluebird collection and sharing roses from her garden. Her smile, positive attitude and sunny disposition were contagious.

    She was preceded in death by her parents,  Arnold J. and Ella E. Niehaus; first husband, Melvin P. Friederich; son-in-law, Bill Hicks; siblings and their spouses, identical twin Bernadine (Edward) Poletti, Melvin (Marian) Niehaus, Lorine (Omar Bugger) (Paul) Tonnies, Marcella (Herbert) Heim, Arline (Vincent Fohne) (Donald) Fohne; brothers-in-laws and sisters-in-laws, Vernon (Norma Jean) Friederich, Thelda Taveggia, Faye Palecek, Donald (Betty) Dickerson.

    Bernice is survived by her husband, Leonard Dickerson, Collinsville, IL; children, Carol Ann (Jim) Meyer, Maryville, IL, Gene (Connie) Friederich, Alhambra, IL, Marianne (Bob) Hicks Mueller, Chesterfield, MO, Joanne (Jim) Kalla , Collinsville, IL, Russell (Lesa) Friederich, Collinsville, IL, Robert (Shelly) Friederich, Edwardsville, IL, Susanne (Jim) Osterhout, Collinsville, IL, Joseph (Joanne) Friederich, Granite City, IL; grandchildren, Joseph (Laura) Timmermann, Shawn (Theresa) Friederich, Brandy (Todd) Rolfingsmeyer, Autumn (Tom) Severit, Nicholas (Kayla) Friederich, Michael (Jenn) Hicks, Matthew (Sarah) Hicks, Thomas (Emily) Kalla, Jennifer (Seth) Atkins, Kyle Friederich, Rachel Friederich, Jaclyn Allison, Zackary (Kate) Friederich, Daniel (fiance’ Chandler Bryant) Osterhout, Andrew (Kristen) Osterhout, Ryan Osterhout, Erica Friederich, Kristine Schneider and Grace Schneider; 23 great-grandchildren; brothers-in-law and sister-in law, Lawrence Dickerson, Collinsville, IL and Harold (Ada) Friederich, Mascoutah, IL; many very special nieces, nephews and friends.

    Memorials in Bernice’s honor may be made to Ss. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Collinsville, IL.

    She was such a sweet and wonderful person and I know you will miss her terribly. I have no doubt that the angels met her at heaven’s gates. Know that you all will be in our prayers and thoughts as you navigate this difficult time. I feel very strongly that a mother’s love is always with us. She will forever be in your heart.
