Arleen E. Berberich, 76, of Lebanon, IL, passed away on Sunday, May 21, 2023, in Aviston, IL.

She was born on January 13, 1947, in Belleville, IL, to Walter and Lorraine (nee Engleman) Steinkamp. Arleen was a member of St. Paul UCC in Lebanon, IL.  She married Allen M. Berberich on May 31, 1969, at the Okaville Lutheran Church.

Arleen had lived in Lebanon for 51 years. She was born and raised in Okawville, IL, and graduated from Okawville High School. She worked for 20 years at the Lebanon grade school as a cook in the cafeteria; all the kids loved her. She enjoyed going camping with her family and had a group of friends who would go, and they always parked their campers next to each other.

Arleen was a typical good housewife, the hardest job in the world. She loved taking care of her kids, faithfully attended her church, and kept an immaculate house. A wonderful mother and wife, Arleen will be missed by all who knew her.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, Allen M. Berberich; daughter, Karen Berberich; and parents, Walter and Lorraine Steinkamp.

Arleen is survived by her daughter, Mary Berberich, Lebanon, IL; brother, Marvin (Carol) Steinkamp, Mulberry Grove, IL; sister, Audrey (Steve) Buescher, Nashville, IL; many cherished nieces and nephews.

Memorials may be made to St. Paul UCC, Lebanon, IL.

Mom Berberich was always welcoming. So caring, loving and generous. So many days spent hanging out with Mary. When I came to the Fireman’s Picnic, I would never miss a trip to the food stand to give Mom and Dad a hug. I miss her smiles.

Sending thoughts and prayers to the Berberich and Steinkamp family. I have fond memories of staying with Arleen and Audrey when I was young. They were my older sisters.

    With our deepest sympathy.
    Love,
    Jay and Genny Becker
