    ANNE RILEY, 87, of Geff, Illinois passed away Wednesday, April 24, 2019 at Aperion Care in Fairfield, Illinois.

    Anne was born October 23, 1931 to John W. and Ruth M. (Knox) Hilliard in San Antonio, Texas. She married Ronald B. Riley September 13, 1950 at Geff, Illinois. He preceded her in death March 7, 2019.

    Anne received her Bachelor of Science degree at McKendree College in Lebanon, Illinois. She retired as Head of the English Department at Flora High School in 1986. She previously taught five years at Johnsonville Grade School and three years at Berry Grade School.

    Anne was a member of First United Methodist Church at Fairfield, Illinois Retired Teachers Association, and associated with school bands at Mesquite High School and Baylor University in Texas.

    Anne is survived by one son John E. (Cheryl) Riley of Mt. Vernon, Illinois; three grandchildren Ronald (Nicole) Jelly of Geff, Illinois, Tamela (Jasent) Freeman of Fairfield, Illinois, and Lindsey (Daniel) McVay of Baltimore, Maryland; six great-grandchildren, Shane and Hannah Locey, Brenna and Kiera Freeman, and Connor and Camden McVay; three sisters-in-laws Rosalie Riley, Ann (Ken) New and Susie Headley.

    She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Ron, and one daughter, Sharon.

    Funeral service will be Saturday, April 27, 2019 at 12pm at First United Methodist Church in Fairfield. Visitation will be 11am-12pm prior to the service at the church. Burial will follow in Bestow Cemetery.

    Always loved Mrs. Riley as a teacher. She was also very nice to me when I worked at Flora High School. RIP Mrs. Riley.

    Prayers for the family. Mrs. Riley was a wonderful English teacher and one of the main reasons I teach English today at FHS. I have such fond memories of her and her class.

    I will never forget Mrs. Riley and her great sense of humor and laughter. I loved having her as a teacher. She was feisty and fun. My condolences to John and his family as well as all of Anne’s family and friends.

    My prayers go out to the Riley family. She was my English teacher at FHS. She was funny and made learning fun as well. Ms Riley always found time for her students whether it was help with homework or just good advice. Gone but not forgotten. R.I.P. Ms Riley we love you.

    I enjoyed having Mrs. Riley for Literature, I still remember reading the books and the passion she had when discussing them in the classroom.

    Mrs. Riley was a wonderful English teacher! Nancy Moses and I were both very happy to have been taught logic in high school while others in our college class were struggling to figure it out… thanks to Mrs Riley. May she Rest In Peace.

    Loved being in her class…she made learning fun with her strong attitude…I attribute my passion for reading to her as she opened up the world for many students…praying for peace and comfort for your family
