    • Full Obituary

Allan Robert Bloemker, of Orlando, FL, formerly from Highland, IL, passed away on Monday, May 11, 2020, at the age of 81.  After a million rounds of golf, he truly expected his back to be what got him, but his big heart gave out first.

Allan was born October 28, 1938, to Harold and Ella Bloemker.  An only child, Allan learned his gift of hard work and dedication at a young age while working on the farm.  He graduated from Highland High School in Highland, IL and joined the Army, where he was fortunate to be a member of their bowling team and learned to cut hair for favors.

In 1962, he married Carol Fountain and enjoyed 47 years of marriage before she passed in 2009.

Not wanting to work on the farm and self-admittedly unable to have a boss, he opened Al’s Barber Shop on Highland’s town square and maintained this presence for nearly 50 years.

He retired to the warmth of Florida where he was fortunate to meet his current wife, Donna Bloemker, and where he lived to play golf and walk his dog.

He was also preceded in death by his parents, Harold and Ella Bloemker, and is survived by his two children, Rob (Shannon) Bloemker, San Francisco, CA, Kerri (Chris) Cook, St. Charles, IL, as well as six grandchildren, Zachary, Ryan, Mitchell, Madison, Bodhi and River.

Due to COVID-19, there are no services scheduled but a Celebration of Life will be scheduled at a later date.

      Meridith Funeral Home, Highland, IL.

Condolences are reviewed and published within 24 hours.

Rob/Kerri, I am so sorry for your loss. I really enjoyed talking with your dad. All those years growing up and going to him to cut my hair, he was so easy to be around. When I started golfing he helped me pick out a set of clubs and sized them for my height. Both of your parents were good to my parents and I know they enjoyed being with them back in the day. Hang in there. We are praying for you.

Rob and Kerri, I am so sorry for your loss. I have so many wonderful memories growing up with your family. Your parents were the nicest people. I loved running into your dad before he moved to Florida. He still had that big smile and I always enjoyed talking to him. I’ll be thinking about you.

Lee and I were so saddened to hear the news about Al. We always enjoyed our time with him whenever he visited. Lee always felt comfortable with Al because they shared a similar rural background and a great love of cars.

He was so proud of Kerri and Chris and their beautiful families. He was my loyal Facebook friend and he loved seeing pictures of his grandchildren. He never failed to comment about them!

His strong work ethic, fine personality, and love of people will live on through Kerri and Rob and his six, tall, handsome, smart grandchildren. He left a great legacy. When Lee looks at his tall grandchildren he says, “Thank Heaven for Bloemker genes”.
Our thoughts and prayers are with all the family at this time. We will miss Al.
