- Full Obituary
Albert W. Adamick Jr. loved God, his wife Shirley, his family and nature. Throughout his life he lovingly grew and nurtured his family, plants and animals. He believed the land and all that grew upon it were precious and should be respected and conserved. Planting pine trees on a hillside was one of the first acts of conservation he performed when he and Shirley bought their farm. He also loved to grow plants and trees from seed. Albert could plant an apple, pear, pecan, buckeye or pawpaw seed and grow a tree.
Growing up, Albert helped his parents grow a garden, farm and grow many acres of tomatoes for the catsup factory in Collinsville. He loved to fish with his father, wander the woods, and hunt mushrooms in the spring and fall. As his children grew old enough to trek in the woods, he taught them how to be quiet in the woods, disturb as little as possible, eat persimmons and paw paws, and find mushrooms.
Albert was a “hands on” father; playing with his children, going swimming and to A and W for root beer on Saturday night. He taught us how to pray: “Just talk to God like I’m talking with you.”
He enjoyed grocery shopping and could spend hours looking throughout the store. Albert was friendly, outgoing and enjoyed meeting people and sharing stories.
Albert and Shirley (Hayes) met while baling hay on her father’s farm. They were married in Wahiawa, Hawaii on June 27, 1953, while he was stationed at Schofield Army Base. He often commented that he and Shirley had a long honeymoon in paradise as he served in the Army.
Albert and Shirley have four surviving children: Pamela Knobeloch (Dennis), Gregory Adamick (Debbie), Robert Adamick (Jeannette), Stephan Adamick (Peggy). They have numerous grand and great grandchildren. Albert is survived by his sister, Dorothy Helmer (Irvin) of Highland and his sister-in-law, Marie Adamick of Collinsville.
Albert was preceded in death by his parents, Albert A. and Agnes (Bulan) Adamick Sr., his wife Shirley (Hayes) Adamick, his brother Ray Adamick, sister, Marcella (Adamick) Froncheck and nephews, Jim and Tom Adamick.
Albert peacefully joined his beloved wife, Shirley, in heaven on Sunday, September 23, 2018. He will be greatly missed and forever be in the hearts of many.
