Abbey Nicole Quitmeyer, 26, of Highland, IL, died Sunday, May 13, 2012 at St. Louis University Hospital, St. Louis, MO.
She was born February 26, 1986 to Neal and Kathleen (nee Potthast) Quitmeyer at St. Joseph Hospital, Breese, IL.
Abbey was a member of St. Paul Catholic Church, Highland, IL. She graduated Mater Dei High School in 2004 with Honors. She lettered in 4 sports, basketball, volleyball, track, and cross country. She was on State Championship Teams in volleyball and cross country and selected for the All-State Team in cross country. At Kaskaskia College, she made the Basketball Academic All America Team. She graduated December 2011 with a Doctorate in Physical Therapy from Maryville University, St. Louis, MO. She started working at Washington County Hospital, Nashville, IL, in January 2012. Vivacious, friendly, didn’t know a stranger, determined. One of her favorite quotes, “Life is too short to wake-up in the morning with regrets… believe that everything happens for a reason, if you get a chance, take it, if it changes your life, let it, Nobody said it would be easy, just that it would be worth it.” Author unknown.
She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Clarence and Blanche Potthast, Delmar Quitmeyer; Godfather, Curt Duft.
She is survived by her parents, Neal and Kathleen Quitmeyer; her grandmother, Arlene Gustafson; 1 sister, Mindy Fenton; 1 brother, Kevin Quitmeyer; her special friend, Dusty Kantner; nieces and nephews, Lauren, Ashlyn and Madison Fenton, Hayden and Wade Quitmeyer; Godmother, Jane Duft; numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.
Memorials may be made to the Abbey N. Quitmeyer Memorial Fund.
Visitation: Wednesday, May 16, 2012 from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. and Thursday, May 17, 2012 from 8:00 to 9:30 a.m. at Meridith Funeral Home, Highland, IL
