- Full Obituary
John D. Doty, 87, of Sorento, IL, died Sunday, June 26, 2022, at his home, with his wife by his side.
He was born October 22, 1934 to Oscar and Lula Doty in Pacific, MO. On October 14, 1968, he married Virginia Jones in E. St. Louis, IL.
John was raised in Jennings, MO, then lived in California, Centreville and Cahokia, IL, before moving to Sorento for the last 35 years. He operated Doty’s Appliance in Collinsville for 25 years, then Appliance Recyclers in Granite City for 20 years, where he worked with various city cleanups and trash companies before his retirement.
Known to be a workaholic, he especially loved to work in his garden; growing cucumbers and tomatoes, the majority of which he donated to the Greenville Food Pantry through the years. John had an interest in politics and loved to build jigsaw puzzles. You could often find John and Virginia out dancing and having a good time on Friday and Saturday nights, enjoying their time together. John was loving and caring; he expected honesty and in return gave no judgement, and though sometimes strict, his big heart always had a door open for anyone in need and no one ever left hungry. He truly loved spending time with his wife, kids, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.
John was preceded in death by his parents, Oscar and Lula Doty; daughter, Debra Sue Doty; siblings, Roland, Beatrice, Irene, Kenneth, Robert, Ruby, Loetta and Oscar.
He is survived by his loving wife Virginia Doty, Sorento, IL; sons, Ronald (Shelly) Doty, John Doty, James (Desiree) Doty; 12 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; sister, Rose Tiepelman; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, Greenville Food Pantry or Alhambra Rehab & Healthcare, Alhambra, IL
