Helen Carol Breckel, 79, of Breese, IL, passed away Friday, April 15, 2022, at Aviston Countryside Manor.

She was born on August 21, 1942, to Marvin and Georgia (nee Pitts) Comstock in Salem, IL. On April 2, 1977, she married Dale Breckel, at St. John UCC in Mascoutah, IL.

Carol lived in the Lebanon area for 17 years before moving to Kentucky for eight years. Her and Dale then came back to Illinois, making a home in Breese.

Carol’s family meant the world to her, and she enjoyed the time she could spend with them. She followed the boys’ sports and loved spending time with her grandchildren. Quite the crafty one, Carol created stained glass and macrame pieces, and also loved to paint. Every year she made hand-painted Easter baskets and Christmas decorations. She found great enjoyment shopping for the holidays, always on the quest for the perfect gift. Carol liked to watch the St. Louis Cardinals and college basketball and traveled when she could.

She was preceded in death by her son, Jeffrey Beckel; parents, Marvin and Georgia Comstock; step-mother Vera Comstock; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Ed and Kay Breckel; sister, Barbra (Bobby) Klingel; sister-in-law, Margie Seifert.

Carol is survived by her loving husband, Dale Breckel, Breese, IL; daughter, Leann (Linus) Wilke; sons, Jay (Amy) Breckel, Gary (Cari) Breckel; daughter-in-law, Vicki Breckel; grandchildren, Mitchell Wilke, Meredith Wilke, Anderson Wilke, Joshua Breckel, Emma Breckel, Lance Breckel, Livia Breckel, Carly Breckel, Jack Breckel, Sam Breckel; brother, Darrell (Shirley) Comstock; brothers-in-law, Warren Klingel, Mike (Rita) Breckel, Richard Seifert; sister-in-law, Joyce Breckel Carlson; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

In lieu of flowers, Memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital, Hospice of So. IL., St. Louis Children’s Hospital or Shriner’s Hospital-St. Louis.
