Nancy Smith, 60, of Caseyville, IL, passed away Tuesday, April 5, 2022, at St. Elizabeth, in O’Fallon, IL.

She was born August 17, 1961, in Peoria, IL, to Robert Gildo and Genevieve (nee Loyet) Varda. On May 10, 2008, she married the love of her life, David Smith, at the Blum House in Collinsville, IL.

Nancy loved her family and loved to spend time with and spoil her grandchildren. She loved to participate in all of their fundraisers, especially when it came to buying girl scout cookies from them. Her family was her support system during her battle with multiple sclerosis, which she fought until the very end. Nancy loved to cook; she made the best potato salad when the family came over to barbecue. She loved the ocean, deep-sea fishing and walking along the beach at their condo in Delaware, Maryland.

She was preceded in death by her father, Robert Gildo Varda; and brother, Joseph Varda.

Nancy is survived by her loving husband of 13 years, David Smith; mother, Genevieve Varda; children, Michael (Kaya Peterson) Hitch, Brittany Hitch, Jessica (Randy) Lampe, Hope (Wesley) Jones, David Smith Jr.; sisters, Cindy Sheppard-Bodine, Brenda Sheppard, Lorrie Sheppard-Maurer; grandchildren, Paige, Miahlee, Zada, Kahlani Mae, Elijah, Aileah, Lorelei, Laynie, Londyn, Livian, Carter, Carson; many cousins, and loving friends.

Sending our condolences to Dave, her son and daughter. Nancy was our neighbor for years and a genuine caring person. Her battle with MS was a long, hard one but she never failed to keep her spirits up as long as she could.
God called her home when it was time for her to finally rest.

We love you Nancy and will miss you.
