    Kenneth Koertge Mewes, age 86, passed away on Wednesday, February 9, 2022, at his residence in Bone Gap, IL.

    Kenneth was born on 27 October 1935 to Frederick and Geneva Koertge Mewes in Parkersburg IL.  He married Glenna June Gray on February 27, 1955, at the E.U.B. Church in West Salem, IL.

    Kenneth was a farmer retiring in 2001 and then worked at Bailey’s/UAP in Browns IL for several years.  He served as an Edwards County Commissioner and as a Road Commissioner.  He was active in the Zion United Methodist Church and was a Sunday School teacher for many years.  After he retired, he enjoyed tinkering in his farm shop, he built some quite unique tractors as well as his famous barrel train.  One of his great joys was taking his grandchildren and other children for a ride on his barrel train.  He shared his barrel train with the Bone Gap community chowder and at other community events.  He really enjoyed being with his grandchildren and great grandchildren.

    Kenneth is survived by his wife, June, daughter Susan (Randy) Cox Cookeville TN, sons:  Chris (Carey) Mewes, Owensboro KY and Brian (Jamie) Mewes, Albion; IL grandchildren:  Audrey Kocher (Wayne), Ashley Craig (Peter), Sarah Mitchell (Bryce), Nathan, Kyle, Blake, Katie, and Logan Mewes; great grandchildren:  Riley and Brody Lynn and Harper and Millie Craig; brother Jerry Mewes; and numerous nieces and nephews.

    He was preceded in death by his oldest son Larry, his parents, and siblings Joe, and Nancy Wiley.

    Visitation will be held on Tuesday, February 15, 2022, from 5 to 7 PM at Zion United Methodist Church in West Salem IL.  Funeral will be held on Wednesday February 16, 2022, at 10:00 AM at Zion United Methodist Church with burial to follow at Zion United Methodist Cemetery in West Salem, IL.

    Memorials can be made to the Zion United Methodist Church. Envelopes will be available at the visitation and funeral.
