    • Full Obituary

Mary Delaney, 76, of Highland, IL, passed away Wednesday, December 22, 2021, at St. Joseph Hospital in Highland, IL.

She was born on June 10, 1945, to Milton and Lovella (nee Moody) Pruess in New Orleans, LA.  She married the love of her life, Richard Delaney on February 14, 1961 in New Orleans.

Mary loved her family more than anything, but her love also extended far beyond her family, as everyone in the neighborhood knew her as “Grandma Mary”. Her home was open to all, and you could often find all the neighborhood children, as well as her own grandchildren, at Grandma Mary’s house. In her free time Mary loved to sew and watch nature shows on TV. In her earlier years she practiced, as a novice, at the Alexian Brothers Hospital in St. Louis, MO. Mary was always caring for others, putting everyone before herself, and always there to lend a listening ear or give sage advice.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Milton and Lovella Pruess; husband, Richard Delaney; daughter, Mary Kay Grant; siblings, Anne Fain and Joan Brown.

Mary is survived by her children, Richard Devantier, Deborah Delaney, William Delaney, Donna Delaney, Matthew Delaney; son-in-law, Thomas Grant; grandchildren, Jeremy (Kelly) Grant, Stephanie Grant, Joshua Shrum, Brittany Shrum, Samantha Pettigrew, Mikhail Washington, Ronald Washington Jr., Christopher Devatier, Jonathon Devantier; great-grandchildren, Aiden Hultz, Delaney Hultz, Ravyn Shrum, Kaydyn Beck, Kamari Washington, Detrevious Bussell, Carly Washington, McKayla Pettigrew, Mikala Pettigrew, many nieces, nephews, loving friends, and all the “grandkids” she raised while living in Granite City.

In lieu of flowers, Memorials may be made to the family.

Burial and Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
