- Full Obituary
Richard J. “Dick” Ogden, 70, of Lebanon, IL, born January 6, 1942, in Belleville, IL, died Tuesday, October 2, 2012, at his home surrounded by his family.
Dick was an Investigator for the Defense Security Service, Scott AFB, IL, retiring in 2002. He was a graduate of McKendree College (now University) and later received his master’s degree from Webster University. He was a former member of the Lebanon Emerald Mound Volunteer Fire Department for 23 years and also served as an EMT with the Lebanon Volunteer Ambulance Service. Dick also served on the Lebanon School Board for 10 years, serving as President the last 2 years. One of his greatest joys in life was attending all sports in which his children, and later grandchildren, participated. Every year he took a vacation at Christmas break and attended basketball tournaments at either Columbia or Freeburg High Schools. All day he would sit watching game after game. He also coached several summer league soccer and baseball teams. But, his ultimate role was as a sports fan. He never missed an opportunity to cheer the team on, offer encouragement, or only when asked, give advice. Dick greeted every one with a welcoming smile. He never knew a stranger and was a friend to all.
Dick was preceded in death by his father, James F. Ogden.
Surviving are his wife of 52 years, Judy Ogden, whom he married on September 10, 1960; children and grandchildren, Ginger L. (John) Johnson and children, Julianne and Taylor; Richard Todd Ogden and children, Christian and Lauren; Lori A. (Rod) Reinneck and children, Noah, Emily, and Abigail; Michael J. (Natalie) Ogden and children, Brittany and Brandon, all of Lebanon, IL; Stephen D. (Barb) Ogden and children, Jonah, Adam, and Marley of Troy, IL; mother, Marion Ogden of Lebanon, IL; sister, Ginger (Dennis) Haeuber of Ashley, IL; brother-in-law, Jack (Jane) Cotts, Lebanon, IL; many aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank Dr. Lockhart and staff at the Siteman Cancer Center. We especially thank Hospice of Southern Illinois for their wonderful support, tender care, and many words of encouragement.
Memorials in honor of Dick may be made to St. Paul United Church of Christ, Lebanon, IL or Hospice of Southern Illinois.
