    Mildred J. Hargrave, 99, of Fairfield, Illinois, passed away Friday, August 20, 2021, at Meadowood Nursing and Rehab in Grayville, Illinois.

    Mildred was born December 2, 1921, at Truman, Arkansas to William and Medie (Caar) Johnston.  She first married Cecil A. Simpson October 14, 1939, at Jonesboro, Arkansas and he preceded her in death August 1, 1986.  She later married Perry Hargrave June 3, 1989, at Fairfield, Illinois and he preceded her in death November 21, 1993.

    Mildred was a housewife and caregiver for many families. She was a member of the First Assembly of God Church in Fairfield, Illinois, past member of Senior Citizens at Cisne, Illinois, and Senior Regent of Women’s Auxiliary of The Moose Lodge at Taylor, Michigan.

    Mildred is survived by a daughter Debra Vangilder of Fairfield, Illinois; a son William (Judy) Simpson of Petersburg, Michigan; eight grandchildren, seventeen great grandchildren, fifteen great-great grandchildren and a son-in-law Claude Young of Birmingham, Alabama.

    Preceding her in death were her two husbands, two sons, two daughters, four sisters, one brother and one granddaughter Wendy.

    Graveside service will be 11:00 am Thursday, August 26, 2021, at Pleasant Grove Cemetery south of Fairfield, Illinois.  Everyone attending is asked to go to the cemetery.

    Memorials may be given to the donor’s choice and will be accepted at the cemetery or Hosselton-Meridith Funeral Home.

    So sorry to hear about Mildred. We loved her and still often think of her. It was not long ago we were talking about her wondering how she was doing. Wendy was like a sister to me, hence Mildred was like another grandparent. Our entire family sends their love, thoughts and prayers.

    Deb, I am so sorry to hear of Mildred’s passing, somehow I thought she would be around until I was gone. I have good memories of her and hanging out at her house. I remember how you were there to support me when dad died and how much it meant. I love ya. Please reach out if you need anything.
