      Louis Thomas “Tom” Dowdy, 78, of Highland, IL, passed away Saturday, August 14, 2021, at his home in Highland, IL.

      He was born October 23, 1942, to Eugene and Myrtle (nee Crockerall) Dowdy, in Stewart County, Tennessee.

      Tom was a member of Highland Southern Baptist Church in Highland, IL. He loved to fish with his buddies on Silver Lake in their little jon-boat. The Highland Diner was a favorite amongst him and his friends, where they would frequent for coffee and breakfast. Tom was a loyal, devoted, and loving husband. If you knew him, you knew of his uniqueness. God only made one Tom Dowdy, and we thank him for it. He was a saved man and is now in heaven sitting next to his wife, Lana Dowdy.

      He was preceded in death by his parents, Eugene and Myrtle Dowdy; wife, Lana (nee Dyer) Dowdy.

      Tom is survived by his children, Brandon (Rhonda) Dowdy, Mark (Darlene) Dowdy; brothers, Gene Dowdy, Phillip Dowdy, Bruce Dowdy; grandson, Chase Dowdy; niece, Kelly Van; nephew, J.W. Mollett.

      Memorials may be made to Highland Southern Baptist Church.

      Per the family’s request, there are no services scheduled.

      I was blessed to have Tom as my brother . Tom, I will miss our phone calls but I know you’ll be listening from above. I would like to thank the many friends Tom had and told me about often. God bless all that were Tom’s friends and his family.

      Very sorry for the loss of Tom. He was a very nice guy and a very generous host. We had a great time visiting with Tom and Lana. We will miss them both, but so happy to know We will see them again someday soon. Sympathy to all the family. 💙

      Tom, even though I knew you as “Louie”, I just saw this You and Ray were my two best friends growing up and you were best man at my wedding. We had many double and triple dates, including ones where one of us hid in the back just to see what the other was doing. I loved you like a brother and will miss you greatly.
