    Michael P. Halasey, 72, of rural Lebanon died Saturday, Sept. 4, at Aviston Countryside Manor.  He was born February 5, 1938 in E. St. Louis, IL to Francis Halasey and Winifred Marquard.  They preceded him in death.  Mike was a graduate of St. Philip’s Catholic Grade School; a 1956 graduate of Assumption Catholic High School.  He served in the United States Navy on the USS Douglas H. Fox from Feb. ‘57 to Feb ’61.   He was preceded in death by a brothers-in-law, Bill Caraway, Joseph Beljanski, Warren Shepheard, and Ed Gregorich; a nephew, Warren Shepheard Jr., and great-nephew Erick Shepheard.  He married Georgia Ann McAdams, Sept. 21st, 1963 at St. Elizabeth’s church in E. St. Louis, IL and she survives in Lebanon.  He is also survived by six children, Michael (Carrie) Halasey Jr. of New Athens, Michelle (Mike Haas) Richards of Mascoutah, Gary (Vanessi) Halasey of Belleville, Jody (Scott) Broaddus of Damiansville, George (Denise) Halasey of Lee’s Summit, MO, Tina (Kurt) Litteken of Trenton and 17 grandchildren, a brother, Deacon (Eileen) Halasey, sisters JoAnn Gregorich, Jean Shepheard, Doris Ann Caraway, and Kathleen Beljanski; sister-in-law Sandy (Clarence) Goebel and many beloved nieces, and nephews.  He retired March ‘97 as an Electrician for IBEW Local #309, Collinsville, IL.  He was known as the “family repairman” and had many hobbies, including clock repair and photography. 

    He had a courageous 2 year battle with brain cancer, and entered into rest 48 years to the day after meeting his beloved wife.  The family would like to thank Dr. Dombrowski and staff of SLU Hospital, Dr. Gagen and staff, Aviston Countryside Manor and staff, and Heartland Hospice and staff for their care and compassion in caring for Mike in his brave and enduring battle.  In Lieu of flowers, Mike and his family ask that donations be made to Horner Park.  Donations will be accepted at Meyer Funeral Home.

    Visitation: Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, September 7, 2010, at Meyer Funeral Home, Lebanon, Ill. 

    Funeral: Service will be held on Wednesday, September 8, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Joseph’s Church in Lebanon, Illinois

    Clergy: Chaplain, Mike Garrison.
