      Joseph “Joe” Cline, 74, of Highland, IL, passed away, Sunday, July 11, 2021 at his home, with his family by his side.

      Joe was born September 21, 1946 to Harry and Vida (nee Christensen) Cline, in Burlington, WI.  On May 6, 1972, he married GiGi Fehrenback in Fontana, WI.

      Joe had to go on Kidney dialysis 18 years ago.  After 30 months, he was gifted a new kidney from Kay Plozizka, his nurse.  This thoughtful act gave Joe another 16 plus years with his family and friends.  The family cannot thank her enough for her sacrifice.

      He worked at Basler Electric for 39 years as an Engineering Manager.  He always said it was a good place to work, and he enjoyed his time there.  He was always thankful they stood by him through his dialysis.

      Joe was a family man; his daughter and grandson were the apple of his eye.  His wife and their family meant the world to him.  He was loved by everyone; no one had a negative think to say about him.  When you met Joe, you would have a friend for life.  He was a true sports fanatic, playing baseball, football and basketball in high school; while also being the captain of the teams.  After his high school career, he continued playing on various teams in Wisconsin, after his time in the Navy.  Once he moved to the Highland area, he played basketball and softball, with a group of great guys who enjoyed the games as much as he did, and later in life, his passion became the game of Golf.  He loved working in his yard, always doing new landscaping projects.  He will be missed by all who knew him.

      He was preceded in death by his father-in-law and mother-in-law, George and Anita Fehrenback; parents, Harry and Vida Cline; aunts and uncles, Doris & Harold Zick, Dee & Kenny Christensen.

      He is survived by his loving wife of 49 years, GiGi Cline; daughter, Heather Merkle; grandson, Hunter Merkle; many beloved cousins and friends.

      Memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital.

      No services are scheduled at this time.

      Joe was one of a kind. So gentile and always a smile. Joe and his wife Gigi introduced me to my husband Ralph. Joe and Ralph were good friends and played softball together. We spent time as couples doing many things together. Always enjoyed being around him. Joe will be greatly missed. My prayers to Gigi, Heather and Hunter. May Joe RIP. No more pain.

      To Gi, Heather & Hunter, this is for sure sad news and you as well as the entire family have my sincere condolences! I worked with Joey for over 30 years at Basler and played many games of golf with Joe and no matter how lousy I played, always enjoyed myself being on the course with Joey! He was one of the nicest, friendliest, kindest, honest, thoughtful, dedicated and hard working people I’ve ever known! Anytime I needed his help or advice he was there. Prayers go out to Gi, Heather & Hunter! I know Joe will be missed by all who knew him and it would be a much better place if there were more people like Joey in it. While I didn’t spend one on one time with Joey after we left Basler, I called him as much as possible and he never one time complained or blamed anyone for being so sick!       There is something about electrical engineers from Wisconsin that make them the nicest guys you’d ever want to meet. My dad was one and Joe was right there with him. Great friend and not right that someone so good should have to go through what he did physically. Whether it was golf, shooting pool or just hanging out and having a beer I am lucky to have known Joe. Gigi, Heather and Hunter know we’re all thinking of you.

      Jim and I are so sorry to hear of Joe’s passing. He was a gentle soul. Condolences to you Gi, Heather and Hunter. This is a sad time but I remember a fun visit with Joe on a visit to Wisconsin way back when Jill was a baby. I also remember seeing him on TV after his transplant! He was beaming! That’s how Jim and I remember Joe. May he rest now in peace with no more pain.
