Robert A. “Bob” Headley Jr., 74 of rural West Salem, IL passed peacefully into eternity on Saturday July 3, 2021, on the banks of the Little Wabash River at Bennington, IL.
He was born on February 26, 1947, in Bennington, IL to Robert A. Headley Sr. and Mary Josephine (Collins) Headley.
Bob was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed hunting and fishing with his prized little pup, “Booger” at his side. He worked in his grandfather’s sawmill business and helped on the family farm as a young man before being drafted into the U.S. Army on January 22, 1969.
During his time with the U.S. Army Bob earned the following commendations and medals, national defense service medal, army of occupation medal (Berlin), good conduct medal and sharpshooter (rifle).
After serving in the U.S. Army, he worked in the labor union and served as the road commissioner of road district 2. Bob retired after a long career in the trucking industry. He will be missed by all who knew him.
He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law; Bryan and Tonya Headley of rural West Salem, one sister; Susan Headley of Champaign, IL, one brother; John (Suzi) Headley of rural Olney, IL.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents, Robert Sr. and Mary Headley and a brother Bruce Headley.
Cremation rites have been accorded and per Bob’s wishes there will be no formal services.
Burial of Bob’s cremated remains will take place at a later date in Marion Christian Church Cemetery in Rural West Salem, IL.
