Erika, to you and your family, my heart aches for you. I always enjoyed talking to your mom whenever I saw her at school events. I will never forget her generosity when she took Mattie on vacation with your family, and how happy I am she was able to experience Door County. Karla was
a very special mom. Take comfort in her love for all of you and all those special memories you have of her. With my deepest sympathy, Love Mary Ellen

I am so sorry to hear this news. I was an SIUE student who worked under Karla at the Neighborhood Market on one of my rotations. She was such a wonderful mentor to me, and I loved my time working with her! I wish her family comfort during such a terrible time. She had an impact on so many lives and will be greatly missed.

Our deepest sympathy to Karla’s family., especially to Karla’s parents, Dennis & Cindy. I gasped when I read the news & hoped it wasn’t true. We prayed, but God had other plans. May the story of the Great Weaver provide you comfort. It is the story that my grandmother told to comfort me when I lost my father, age 52, from cancer. My father was her son – her faith & trust in God was so inspiring! She said we see only knots & threads in God’s plan, His beautiful quilt. We must just wait & see till we view “the other side”. Only then. we will see its actual glory & beauty! During your time of grief, may the Sacred Heart of Jesus hide you in HIs Wounds; may Our Sorrowful Mother hold & console you; & may St. Joseph protect & comfort you with his Holy Cloak.

I work for SIUE School of Pharmacy. I never had the pleasure of meeting Karla in person, but always enjoyed speaking to her on the phone many times over the years. She was a truly genuine person. She would happily tell me how she loved having our students on their rotation rounds. I know she was a wonderful teacher. My deepest sympathy to her family and friends.
