    Elmer G. Kerkemeyer, 93, of Collinsville, IL, died Friday, January 15, 2021, at home with his family by his side.

    Elmer was born, at home, in Granite City, IL, on July 12, 1927, along with his twin brother, Paul, to Edward and Ottilia (nee Straubinger) Kerkemeyer.  On February 23, 1952 he married Margaret Springman at St. Elizabeth Catholic Church, Mitchell, IL.

    He was a member of Ss. Peter & Paul Catholic Church, Collinsville, IL, where he served in the Wednesday Warriors volunteer group and on the Parish Council.  He was also a member of Knights of Columbus Council 1712.  Elmer was a carpenter and belonged to the St. Louis-Kansas City Carpenters Union for more than 70 years.  He was a skilled crafteman who built his two homes and also helped his children improve their homes.  He liked to share his exciting life stories with his children, who enjoyed listening.  He lived a prayerful life, setting a good example for his family.  He was an active volunteer with the Boy Scouts, mainly at Camp Sunnen.

    Elmer was preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Ottilia Kerkemeyer; wife, Margaret Kerkemeyer; infant daughter, Mary Ann Kerkemeyer; siblings, Leo Kerkemeyer, Rose Jones, Edward Kerkemeyer; sister-in-law, Jerry Kerkemeyer.

    He is survived by his children, Dr. George (Marilyn) Kerkemeyer, Hannibal, MO, Rita (Paul) Ewersmann, St. Paul, MO, Jane (Ross) Case, Edwardsville, IL, Doris (Terry) Schnell, Chesterfield, MO, Dan (Amy) Kerkemeyer, Creve Coeur, MO, Fr. Carl Kerkemeyer, Durant, OK, Rose (Jeff) Buchholz, St. Charles, MO, Roger (Cynthia) Kerkemeyer, St. Charles, MO; grandchildren, Maria (Chris) Camacho, Michael (Carrie) Ewersmann, Laura (Josh) Schlag, Angie Case, Audrey Case, Susan (Kris) Covert, Dave (Kerri) Schnell, Amy (Doug) Lewandowski, Adam Kerkemeyer, Cole Kerkemeyer, Anthony Buchholz, Elizabeth Buchholz, Matthew Buchholz, Anna Buchholz, Katie (fiancée, William Townsend) Kerkemeyer, Kevin Kerkemeyer, Sara Kerkemeyer; great-grandchildren, Makenna, Michael, Jr., Cecilia, Case, Cameron, Lucy, Reese, Aubrey, Lila, Sydney, Jack; brothers, Paul Kerkemeyer, twin, Gilmore, MO, Raymond (Mary Jane) Kerkemeyer, Edwardsville, IL, Frank (Ruth) Kerkemeyer, Rockford, IL; sisters-in-law, Joan Kerkemeyer, Fosterburg, IL, Alice Kerkemeyer, Collinsville, IL; brother-in-law, Leland Jones, Granite City, IL; many nieces and nephews.

    Memorials may be made to Knights of Columbus Council 1712, A Beacon of Light (ABL Pregnancy Center) or Masses.

    Due to COVID-19 everyone attending must wear a mask and social distancing is mandatory.

    Visitation: Wednesday, January 20, 2021, from 10:00 to 11:00 am at Ss. Peter & Paul Catholic Church, Collinsville, IL.

    Mass of Christian Burial: Wednesday, January 20, 2021, at 11:00 am at Ss. Peter & Paul Catholic Church, Collinsville, IL.

    Mr Kerkmeyer was absolutely the best neighbor anyone could ever have! We will all miss seeing him out in the yard picking his berries. The love and kindness he has shown our family will be cherished forever! I’m happy for hi. To be reunited with his Alice again! Love and prayers to his family!

    Dear Cousins,
    So sorry to hear of Uncle Elmer’s passing. We always enjoyed our time with him, hearing about his wonderful family and projects. He and Aunt Margaret were so special to us and we remember them most fondly.
