      Robert (Bob) Markman, 83, of rural West Salem IL, passed away Friday January 1st, 2021 at Carle Richland Memorial Hospital in Olney, IL.

      He was born to Clarence and Mildred (Nee Smith) Markman on November 10, 1937 in Northern Edwards County. Bob married Judy Kitchene on June 7, 1958 at the EUB parsonage in West Salem.

      He attended White School and graduated Edwards County High School in 1955.  He worked for Calvert Drilling in Hamilton, Michigan. In 1963, he moved back to the family farm in West Salem. He raised pigs, cattle, sheep, rode horses, and was a grain farmer. Even after retirement, he still enjoyed helping local farmers fill silo, cut and bale hay and work the ground. He also worked for CST after retirement.
      Bob loved all things on the farm and could be found most days puttering around on one of his tractors, lawn mowers, or his skid steer. He also loved attending antique tractor shows and auctions. He enjoyed attending his grandkid’s sporting events and livestock shows. Bob was a member of the Zion United Methodist Church in West Salem and a volunteer for their food program. He was also a member of the United Methodist Men.

      He is survived by his wife Judith Ann Markman, three daughters: Deb (Phil) Daly, Carrier Mills, Denna (Larry) Mitchell, Noble, and Derra (Cody) Williams, West Salem, IL; five grandchildren, Jeremy (Michelle) Wyatt, Parker (Cally) Mitchell, Alex (Derek) Lindgren, Alyson Williams, Sydney Williams; three great-grandchildren, Gabe Wyatt, Jonathan Kocher, Halley Kocher and anxiously awaiting a fourth; brother, Larry (Clara) Markman, West Salem, IL; two nieces, Lana Mays, West Salem, IL, and Melissa Markman, Austin, TX;  a niece by marriage, Jerrilee LaMar, Poseyville, IN; one sister-in-law, Denalee Standart, Evansville, IN.

      He was preceeded in death by his mother and father, Clarence and Mildred Markman.

      A celebration of life, come-and-go reception will be held by the family  on Saturday March 20, 2021 from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the Zion United Methodist Church in West Salem.

      Memorials can be made to the West Salem Zion United Methodist Church Food Program.

      Judy, my heart goes out to you. As you know I have known you and Bob for many years, as well as Larry. Growing up in the church together just holds that bond.       Judy and family, we are so sorry to hear of Bob’s passing. You all are in our thoughts and prayers. Bob was a gentle giant always willing to help everyone and bragging about his grandkids. Him and Quinn had a good time at auctions. Always looking for a bargin. We will miss him at the church . Love you all hugs.
