Robert Gaylon “Bob” Markman, age 73 of New Bern, NC and Albion, IL passed from this life to the next on Friday, November 6, 2020 at Deaconess-Midtown Hospital, Evansville, IN.
Bob was born on November 25, 1946 in Albion to Glen and Carrie (Smith) Markman.
He was a Veteran and served his country during a four-year deployment in the U.S. Coastguard.
On October 18, 1968 he married Anita Cox in New Bern, NC and they had a loving and adventuresome marriage of over 52 years. Their lives were enriched by their three sons and later, three grandchildren, who were the light of Bobs’ life.
Having homes in both New Bern and Albion, it was evident that Bobs’ birthplace held such a warm place in his heart. He loved his family members who live there, the many friends from school days, the treasured times spent with all, and simply the town, itself.
Bob leaves many wonderful memories that will give strength in the days ahead to the love of his life, Anita, of New Bern, NC and Albion, his sons, Robert Jason Markman of Zebulon, NC, Jered (Melinda) Markman of Yadkinville, NC and Brandon (Kristie) Markman of Apex, NC, three grandchildren: Edgar, Caden and Brinley, three sisters: Glenna Teitsort , Linda (Bob) Caldwell and Judy (Garrel) Knight, and two brothers, Bill (Susan) Markman and Jim (Cathy) Markman, all of Albion. Anita, Jason, Jered, and Brandon, We are very sorry to hear of Bob’s passing. My neighbor and I were splitting wood just yesterday from a tree that had fallen. We talked about splitting wood with Bob and the boys after hurricane Fran in 1996. We still have a stump from that storm in our backyard. Our families had so many good times when the kids were growing up. Bob, you and the boys always made us feel so welcomed with your generous hospitality!

      Love
      Jane & Larry Porter

      Sending cyber hugs.

Bob mentored me back in the 70’s at Brooks Avenue Church of Christ, and got me started in teaching the junior high Bible class. I always will remember his patience and leadership.

I just learned of Bob’s passing. I knew Bob, Anita and family from my time at Brooks Avenue Church of Christ in Raleigh, NC. I was in school at UNC Chapel Hill, and a group of us would travel to church there on Sundays. Bob and Anita lived in the neighborhood I grew up in. I went with them several times for Sunday lunch after church. They were always so warm, welcoming, and kind to me. What true servants of Christ! I’m thankful to God for them. I’ll never forget them. – Steve Gale
